Planning my NNO- help me choose a location!

Hi there! I'm trying to decide on a location for my local Nurse Out for WBW. http://www.promom.org/NNO I live in a small town, there's no LLL in my county although there is one or two leaders that can be contacted via phone or email. I organized a nurse out in 2002 at the local mall and not a single person showed up, I guess I didn't do a good job spreading the word. Last year I wasn't organized enough to get anything done, but this year I want to get a NNO organized!

I contacted a previous co-worker at the Library because I remembered she always does a bf'ing display for WBW and she is going to put out some bookmarks and posters for me. I also hope to get flyers out to MOPS, the park dept, the girls and boys clubs, WIC and possibly some daycares (man, are there ever a lot of them!!!!). I'm also going to put out press releases at the local newspaper and radio station.

If you see anything I'm forgetting, do let me know!!!

So... choosing a location. The weather has been really wacky this month. Lots of thunderstorms with lightning, so I hate to plan to meet at a park and get rained out. The problem is our local mall went under (and Lowe's came up in it's place : ) so we're left with a few small strip malls... none of which have a sandwich shop or anywhere to meet and eat. Any ideas of what to do? Should I just go for meeting at a park and choose a rain date? We do have a nice square downtown with the courthouse and there is a Subway there, but if it rained moms would have to take shelter in Subway or one of the old furniture stores or hair salons. LOL

I want to hurry up and decide so I can get flyers up and the press release sent. Thanks a lot everyone!!!

I think choosing a rain date and just going for it is a great idea. I always think that bf events would be best located in a place frequented by pregnant women! Not always practical, can't do it at the OB's office exactly! You could always have some of the moms bring a canopy or two for shade and in case of rain. (Soccer moms have them, ask me how I know!) And having a few canopies set up at the park may attract even more attention.

Perhaps taking a more formal approach towards inviting nursing moms would work for increasing attendance. Such as sending invitations to moms you know, (even if they are not currently nursing, having more bodies there is still a plus,) with a SASE and reply card to confirm? Then maybe a phone call a few days before to remind them. I know when I volunteered to help at ds1's school I would have totally forgotten about it if they hadn't called me two days before to re-confirm.

Good luck!

Update

I chose to go with the downtown on the square location for more visibility. LOL

I was interviewed by the local newspaper over the phone and they had me come in for a photo. There is to be an article in the paper on Tuesday. Not sure how prominant the article will be or how large (or small!)... hopefully it will be great. The reporter nursed her kids, so that was cool! She commiserated with me about not seeing anyone nurse in our town, so not sure what kind of support or turnout I will have.

Wish me luck!
