The one by Paul Goldone or Byron Barton? I cant decide. I am getting a felt set to go along with the story but cant decide which book to get.

I don't know the difference, but in the book we have the little red hen won't share the bread at the end because her lazy friends woulndn't help her... I don't like that message. Kind of lowers her to their level, KWIM?

Children's librarian here. I always liked the bright colors and simple shapes in the Barton version. It would make a gorgeous feltboard story too if you follow the illustrations -- but you probably mean to buy one, right?

We love the Paul Galdone version, especially for the quaintness of the illustrations.

Ilove the stove, and the sardines the cat dreams about.
It is my Rosie's favorite story.

Not I, said the mouse.

I did end up just going ahead and getting the Byron Bartons version. I liked the bright colors as well. I bought the set from a lady on ebay who makes these felt sets and she said she based it on that version but would also include a cat and a dog to go along with the Paul Galdone version in case I got that one. I guess he used different animals in his.
