carseat safety - Page 2

Veedubs are awesome for bfing, if you have an old one with the bench seats...you just strap in the middle one & if your babys facing backwards, nurse away! That saved me when Kagan was a young'n. Now, forward facing gets a little weird, you can't be belted in, but I have to admit, I'd do it. My dh is a really good defensive driver...and the cries of a baby in a car are more powerful than the Sirens to me...

Hmm, you have quite the predicament...I'd feel much safer with the baby in the moving van like was stated. I personally don't think I could handle having my baby 5 feet back from me, I'd worry about choking or something and I wouldn't be able to fully concentrate on the road!

I did try the BF in the vehicle thing once but it really didn't work for me...I had to lean most ackwardly into the seat and felt like I'd smother her is we'd have happened to crash while like that...of course we were both strapped in, I'd never take a baby out of thier seat while driving or even if stopped on the side of the road!

I used to BF in the car all the time (not while I was driving of course, lol). I was even able to do it with my seat belt on. It took some contortions, but it was so nice to be able to comfort DD like that.

I hope you find a solution, moon goddess. I, too, would not want my child way in the back, but I also know that I could not in good conscience place her in the front of a vehicle like yours (no offense, I think VW vans are cool, but they are not safe for up front). I really think the moving van would be your best bet.

Have you thought about investing in one of those mirrors that you either clip to the infant seat, actualy vehicle seat or put on your rear window? You can get them where they sell baby safety stuff. The concept is that when you look in your rear-view mirror, you can see your kiddo! WE had one and it's the best thing ever! Now that he's forward facing, we have it clipped to the sun visor and I just have to look in the rear view to see him...They come with a suction cup attachment as well as a clip. You can even get ones that are shaped like Elmo, if that tickles your fancy

you know i have nursed him in the back before while he was still in his seat...i am lucky enough to have been gifted HUGE breasts and can sling one over the side of his carrier : i could do that as long as i have a friend with me.

i love my VW van my hubby and i are extremely safe drivers but since i have been contemplating this decision i dont feel good about putting him in the front with me for accident reasons.
