Need help buying a snap press

Thread Starter
I am in desperate need of help here. I want to buy a press but am getting nowhere fast! I e-mailed one store owner who refered me to their FAQ page and that didn't help at all. I feel like I am not getting any answers. I asked what I needed to order to be able to put snaps on a diaper (I would also like to put snaps on clothing too so if you could, tell me what the different sizes are that i need for snaps). I seriously asked for a list of supplies so that I could buy them and got a short "refer to my FAQ page". So, now that that's out of my system, what do I need to buy? I know I need a press but what size snaps, how do I order the snaps and what do I need for dies? The snap ordering is what is confusing because I thought you ordered in sets and then the FAQ page starts talking about needing only 3 parts depending on the application. Sorry to be a pain but my head is swimming.

You need:

1 snap press

1 die for the caps of the snaps

1 die for the "outie" part of the snap

1 die for the "innie" part of the snap

25 "outie" snap pieces

25 "innie" snap pieces

50 cap snap pieces

(I just picked "25" out of the air -- get however many you need)

The extra die piece comes into play because many people use smaller caps on the pieces of the dipe that will touch baby. For example, I have size 16 & 20 caps -- I use the 16's next to baby, so I had to buy a size 16 & a size 20 die piece for caps. IMO, it isn't really necessary to bother with the different sizes, though.

Here is where I ordered from: http://www.snappress.com/ Jennifer is easy to work with -- sometimes it does take a day for her to respond to questions, though. No big deal -- she's a busy mama too!

I'm in another country so am no help with specifics, but I recently bought a snap press locally. I bought their dies and snaps, figuring I could get them whenever I needed to then as they're only in the next suburb, but the snaps are complete crap and are not at all designed to go through the thickness of a diaper. So you need to perhaps determine your snap requirements first and buy the press and dies accordingly.

Luckily, I know this particular press takes the dies from diapershop without any alteration.

I got one from there too. Her snaps have little spikes on them around the edge that keep the snaps from tearing holes in the fabric and coming out as you use them. They're amazing. I have yet to have one of her snaps fail on me.

i only use size 20 everything for diapers. I'm kind of a moron when it comes to these things so I can't deal with which side goes on which KIWM?

i do use smaller snaps for clothes sometimes (and had to get different dies).

and....
snaps are cheap. get a lot when you ship your press. that way you won't eat the shipping later. A lot meaning like 2-3 times what you're going to use in your first diaper making spree.

and don't order it online, but go to a major retailer (walmart-y kinda place) and buy a box like a fishing tackle box to hold all your snaps/dies/etc. once they come.

Pageta -- have you had any problem with the snap centers coming un-smooshed? I wonder if I'm just not pushing hard enough in the first place, but I've had to re-press a few.
