Today is my birthday! I was selfishly hoping to have labor as a birthday present, but that would be a 36 weeker and I do want a chubby ripe baby but still.....I'm sick of being pregnant. Instead my birthday present was Nora Jones tickets. Yeah. The concert isn't until November so I'm sure it will be a nice little first time outing for DH and I.

I can't remember because it was 2 or 3 pages ago but those of you in pain in the the thighs and pelivis, I am there with you. Lifting getting up too fast Everything hurts.

Laurie, I would return that diaper genie. I hated mine. I had two when ben was born. (hand-me-down-freebies) The most use I got out of mine was in the bathroom. I put my used sanitary napkins in it because we had a one bathroom house with alot of visitors. That was the only good thing about the diaper genie, in my opinion. This time I have my own private bathroom.

I used Lansinoh last time and it was a lifesaver. I didn't know it was potentially bad Doesn't LLL recomend it?

Bears, I'm a sposie user too. I was afraid to bring it up. : I am wrapping the stinky ones in a grociery bag and taking them outside to a special (not bought yet) garbage can that will be right outside my door. That is the plan. Our normal garbage cans are stored far away from the door (flies, stinky smells, you know) but I don't want to walk that far to through out a stinky when I have two little ones inside and I'm just lazy. The plan is to get a sturdy but not too big garbage can to keep by the back door with a airtight lid (to make it smell proof and bug proof if there is such thing) so I can just open it up and chunk it. When dh gets home he can empty it into the normal garbage can so it won't get too stinky. whew. What a plan.

I bought a few new pj's last night and a house coat to take to the hospital. I'm getting pumped.

I didn't post this the other day but I was having a LOT of bh contractions that were regularly 5-10 minutes apart but not regular as gradually getting closer together and stronger. So I had a feeling it wasn't labor but it still lit a fire under my butt and made me pack my hospital bag. I asked my mom to come over and help me clean house. It is just too much back ache for me to do alone. And we're getting baby laundry done. I'm only 36 weeks but I'M SO READY TO HAVE A BABY ALREADY. I think this may be partially due to the heat and humidity and my aching bod.

Take care everyone.

Christine :

2 dozen fitteds ,eh Kimberly..ok well I only have 6 fitteds and like 36 PF so I wonder if I can splurge on a few more fitteds....or just use the prefolds...hhhmm ..my mom said I was crazy today for taking cd's to the hosptial ..she works at a hospital and said she has never seen anyone bring cd's to the hospital....:LOL...

We use all Wedela products..lotion dipe cream , oil ect when they are wee ones..

Lansinoh...I am with Chrsitine on this one...LLL does recommend it and it was awesome for me too....Whoever mentioned the thrush thing though is right you have to watch use then......

Bears you poor girlie...If you want to try a homeopathic remedy pm me and give me the deatils of your symptoms and I can look a remedy up for you.
I also read that you can insert a garlic clove in there for 12 hours and that is supposed to help. Hope you get some relief fast!

Lena 3cm huh?.....hhmmm.. I really do vote for you to be next on our baby list...

Laurie ..Feel for you on the sinus issue..not a fun thing to have...hope it leaves you soon.....glad to hear your GBS is negative!!!

whoaa did I over use the smilies in that one or what......*snicker*

I am only taking 1 diaper to the hospital, my lonely x-small fmbg made by our own Terri (girlfactory) For newborn I only have 3 fitteds and 12 preemie prefolds so I don't want to take them to the hospital and come home with diaper laundry and no clean diapers. So I am bringing my oh so cute girlie girl fmbg to bring her home in I'm still holding out hope for an 8lb+ baby (even if that does make my mom laugh at me b/c she thinks I'm weird )

I'm not the only one who is 3, someone else said they were too, who was it?!? Right now I feel like I am *never* going to go into labor. Just being so close for so long to going into labor is making me a little frustrated. I think I was told 3 weeks ago that I would have the baby "anytime" Maybe it was 2.5 weeks ago. Anyway, that's a long time to go without anything happening. I have everything ready except my house is never clean, but I blame the boys (DH and DS) for that.

Our VCR died today while DS was watching "Veggies" Dh was a manly man and took it apart twice but somehow taking it apart and putting it back together didn't fix it I think we might have to get a new one. I was really hoping to get a digital camera, but looks like that won't happen.

Anyway, have a wonderful night ladies. Wonderful baby dreams to all.

Lena that's right someone else did say they were 3cm...who was that??
Traci: I don't use pf's so that's why I didn't take them... I'm sure they'd be fine with a snappi or a wrap I'm such a snob, I just can't do pf's anymore, I'm too much of a spoiled fitted brat.

Katie finally went poop... 3x today I am relieved It's more bf poopie looking too. So that's all good!

My feet are getting skinnier!!! yay for the diuretic!!

Hi all,
Thanks for all your input on the Lansinoh and diaper pail topics. I used to wipe off most of it before DS would latch on, too. And I know the milk trick, too. Usually works, but I thought I would buy some Lansinoh to be prepared.

Perhaps you guys are thinking of me mentioning my friend who was 3 cms??? She had a baby girl on Monday of this week.

Ketilave-I've heard good stuff about the Butt Paste. We've had luck with the Weleda cream. I like a lot of their products. Good toddler toothgel, too.

Happy B-day Christine!

AP-One can never overuse the smilies!
I will keep in mind that you may have some good remedies up your sleeve. I usually only get *maybe* 1 yeast infection/year. And this pregnancy has just been crazy with them (I think 3 or 4). I know it has something to do with changing hormone levels, but GEESH they are irritating and annoying.

Lena-Those docs/MWs can get you so excited about "having the baby soon". And then you just wait and wait and wait...ugh! I'm still betting on you going next, girl!

Kimberly-Glad to hear that your baby girl is pooping well. AND that your getting rid of some of that water... Must be a nice relief. I'm hoping mine go down FAST after baby is born...

Babe is moving a lot tonight. I've also had some mild cramping the past few days. Nothing major, but something is going on... I know that much. Anyway, this weekend we are planning more house stuff AND we have a date tomorrow night. YES, the couple that never goes out by themselves is GOING OUT. WHOO-HOOO!!

Sleep well, ladies!

Hi everyone,

Dh and friends took ds to a monster truck rally tonight. I am sure they are in heaven! I took a trip to Kohls and bought a new maternity shirt and a nursing bra. I know that I might only wear the shirt for a few weeks, but at this point, I am growing out of my maternity clothes, and am getting sooo sick of wearing the same outfits!

I am tired, and clumsy, and wanting baby to come. 38 weeks! My midwife will be doing her home visit on Monday. That is exciting. I am starting to see why so many women are lured into induction. I can see how it would be nice to plan on knowing when the baby is coming. But, we don't have babies for convenience, do we?

You know, this may sound really cruel, but when I am feeling bad, and I log on and read your posts, I usually feel better afterwards b/c I can say...well, at least I don't have a yeast infection, or sciatia, or the flu, etc. I am sorry to hear everyone's pains, but it makes me more grateful for being healthy.

I hope everyone starts feeling better soon, and I hope we start hearing some birth announcements soon! Good night!

Happy Birthday, Christine! I can relate to the desire for a 36 weeker. Dh felt compelled to give me a stern talking to about respirators, incubators and preemies. I'm so used to thinking of this baby as being my responsibility that it surprised me to see his concern at my excitement over BHs.

I don't see any problem w/ bringing cloth, prefolds or fitted, to a hospital. If I do end up birthing at the birthing centre rather than at home, my instinct would be to pack a dozen. Dh, like Daednu, would pack, at most, two. I have a tendency to overpack.

We use a dry pail lined with a Bummis wet bag. Pretty simple. Bwylde, in what section of the dollar store do they sell waterproof bags? I'm intrigued. It wasn't, by any chance, a Dollarama store?

Unlike most of you unlucky ladies, I never had any bleeding issues when breastfeeding. That sounds awful!

As for diaper rash cream, I'm waiting to see if I need any. I hardly used it last time.

Hugs to those of you with job woes. Although Canada ostensibly has great maternity benefits, a lot of women are laid off during their pregnancies or mat leaves. Very stressful.

Time for me to go to bed for the first of many times tonight (pee, heartburn and snacking).

our DSL router went out, and it took us a couple days to replace it... and while i'm gone, you guys wrote PAGES of stuff! so nice to see everyone checking in, but i'll never be able to respond to everyone... please know i'm eagerly reading your adventures and sharing your excitement/pains/anxieties!

midwives came and everything was ultimately OK. i had barfed that morning and so was dehydrated, which got me a little lecture but they also understood how hard it is to drink with an upset tummy. my bp was up just a smidge, not a big deal. but the big news was that this baby has engaged! huh... fourth baby, but for some reason s/he's decided to get settled in there but good. makes walking and climbing stairs a new exploration of ouch. fortunately, s/he also picked an nice anterior position, so that's good.

had a horrible bloody dream last night that kept me up for hours. what is it about pregnancy that makes these dreams so vivid and intense? i don't usually have nightmares at all... but this one was a doozy. brrrr. i just hope i can get to sleep tonight!

i want to write more but i'm exhausted. just wanted you guys to know that this is about the only thread on the entire MDC board i'm reading these days... i can't wait to see who's gonna be next.

i'm also trying to get dh to take a picture of this blossomed belly for you... i love all your pictures, so it seems fair that you guys should get to see me too!

take care, you lovely mamas!

Lol, yep Dodo, it's from Dollarama . It was in the laundry section and it's called a utility bag and measure 22" by 30". I got a bunch for laundry too because they're so handy and cheap.

Katje, I have horrible vivid dreams too. I'm still haunted by some I had earlier this week that were so graphic and real I can't shake them.

We use Penaten for diaper rash, as well as just about everything under the sun as it clears all our skin afflictions right up (even though it's not the most natural stuff out there : ). DS got a wicked sunburn at mom's yesterday ( :'d at mom) so I put some on when he got home and you couldn't tell this morning.

I'm getting the final things ready for the baby to come home and it's really been hitting me hard that I'm having a baby soon! It's exciting and scary all at once

hi all!

whew, lots of posts!

Cheryl: Thanks for the insights about GBS. I am still undecided, but trying to get as much info as possible.

Lets see. Diaper rash: I also love burts bees, that stuff is amazing! And diaper pails: We did sposies with ds for 11 months (unfortunatley) and had a diaper genie at first. I HATE the diaper genie. awful. We got a diaper champ after that and its way better. Now I use a Re-Uz-Um bag and a cheap trash can, works great.

I am going to probably bring 6 dipes with me. Our birthing center is pretty in-and-out, too. But I figure we may end up staying over night if baby is born in the wee hours so I may as well bring extra. Right now I have prefolds packed b/c I am waiting on the fitteds I had to order at the last minute. If they come in time I will be bringing those.

speaking of packing I got my bag ready to go yesterday. I feel much better now. I also washed all the teeny baby clothes and organized the baby's dresser. I think I'm finally starting to nest! Now I just have to get some food to bring. So those of you who can eat during labor, what are you planning on having on hand? I had a hospital birth last time and couldn't eat : or drink.

katje: Thats so great your baby has engaged! Might be very soon for you...

Oh, I have had crazy dreams, too. I actually had one where I found out DH had cheated on me! I was mad when I woke up, too. It was so vivid. Last night I had one that I gave birth to 9 lb baby girl! She was beautiful with thick dark hair and thick eye lashes. That was a nice dream but I am not hoping for a nine-pounder!

anyway, hope you all have a lovely day! I'm going to get some breakfast.

Ok - I am supposed to be a belly for an ALACE class today. My mw asked as a special favour because the woman teaching the class is a very close friend and they are excited to have someone this far along.

Here is my issue - and for those of you that use or are doulas this is not aimed at you...

I don't like how our doulas are working around here. We have a ton of women who are looking to become doulas to support their incomes while they are SAHM. But, none of them are reaching out to hospital births or advertising at babiesrus or hospitals or even just doing mundane" things like holding informational gatherings. They all want to work for my mw (the only hb mw in the area). This upsets me because they are targeting the women who have at least some information and support and will get what they need from the mw (my mw is terrific in this arena - she limits her patients so that she can really be a part of each birth. She is by herself and works out of her home.) I feel that it is part of my responsibility to say something to this group today to at least expand their thinking but don't want to come across to strong (aka B!tchy). The sense I get from so many of them is that this is a business not a "labour of love." Most of them meet with their client once it at all before the birth - how does that create a relationship to support a woman through her labour? I could go on forever because this is a topic that really upsets me. Any thoughts - esp from you doulas would be great. I have to leave here at 2pm.

Anyone else dying to go shopping? I had a dream that I was thin again last night!
Ketilave: I am a doula and YES please say something. I know doulas in my area who are the same way. For some of them I understand why they choose not to go into the hospital (they just can't handle watching so many woman be mistreated and really not have the power to change it)! All of the births I have attended so far have been in a hospital. It is hard to do sometimes but I feel like many of these woman are just not informed and I do my best to equip them with as much information as possible so they can make informed decisions.

For everyone wondering who else said they were 3 cm. That was me. 3 cm. and 80% effaced. Which BTW Lena.... I ask a lot of questions with my MW and I was asking how they measure dialation. 3cm is two fingers with a wiggle. 3 whole fingers is more like 3 1/2 to 4 cm. Sounds like we are both progressing nicely. I was very excited when she told me 3cm. Last pg. After 30 something hours of a broken bag of waters and no contrax the Pitocen was started. I was 2 cm. it took 6 hours of Pit to get me to a 3cm. It was torture. I am extremely encouraged by knowing my body is doing it so much more easily this time.

Still feeling quite yucky. I can deal with the cough and dry throat but this stuffy nose kills me. My mom and I went to a huge mall yesterday. It's like a mile or more all the way around. I was exhausted when we finished. But I had a good time. It's an outlet mall so even better. I got some new running shoes. My dad is the Dallas Running Coach for the Luekemia Society (TEAM IN TRAINING) He teaches people to run either the half or whole marathon. Anyway, I am signing up and start training just one month after birth in September. The marathon will be in January. I can't wait.
I also got some sox for the new baby and for my 2yr. old DD. Carters Outlet was having some good sales and I took advantage of that too. Then last but not least I picked up some Zinc lozenges with Echinasia (sp)? for this sickness. MW reccamended!
Then we went swimming late that night. Oh it was so heavenly after being on my feet all day. When I got out, I kept thinking my water was leaking but no signs of it this morning so I guess not. I'm with Lena. I feel like I am never going to go into labor and I still have 2 weeks before my EDD. I know it can even possibly be another 5 weeks before she gets here. I'ts just hard to think all the things my body is doing wouldn't cause it to happen sooner.
ketilave, that's one reason i backed off from the local doula group in sacramento when i was still in CA. i've also seen this phenomenon among midwives... moving towards a more "professional" practice to get more respect, and not to have to deal with the tough situations.

i've done a handful of homebirths (usually friends who invited me), but the majority of my births were in a hospital. several were on a volunteer basis, where the CNMs knew i was willing to come in and work with women who had zero support. sometimes that was fun, other times it was sooo sad and challenging... but it was all about helping the woman achieve the best birth possible under the circumstances, and i do believe i was able to do at least a little bit in that direction for all of them.

then again, i'm one of those non-professional doulas... i do it because i think it's an incredible honor to be invited to witness a birth, and to serve a birthing woman. if she feels i have provided a valuable service to her, i tell her that i accept gifts... this has ranged from cookies to checks for several hundred dollars. but i wouldn't ever consider it a source of regular income.

i can understand why these new doulas want to try to make a buck... they're investing cash and time into all these silly ALACE and DONA classes. i think all you need to be a decent doula is an open heart, some semblence of intelligence, a cooperative spirit, and a true willingness to serve. we're not medical professionals, and we need to remember that. sure, we might notice something that could help a professional help a client, but that's not our primary focus...

ok, time for my shower. thanks for letting me spout my 2 cents!

Laurie! I'm going to Grapevine Mills this week I can't wait! I went out for the first time today (Whole Foods) in over a MONTH!!!! It felt sooooo good to be in public!! So many comments on Katie! She was in the hotsling and everyone was ooohing on how tiny she is. Anyway, we have to take our wrecked carseat up to an incinerator in north Irving and then we're going to Grapevine Yay! It is 1 mile laps, whew, quite a workout that will be for me!! You sound SOOOO close!!! Do you have a pool in your backyard?? That would be heavenly in this heat! Our backyard is too small... we had it measured by a pool guy and he said our eavesment or whatever would make it so we can only have an 8 foot wide pool

I feel good after my first trip out! I am hoping to feel good enough to go do Kroger tonight as well. I am going to start cooking dinner this week, so that will be good... I'm SO sick of dh's cooking : He can only make like 3 things.

wow laurie and lena, 3+cms for you guys! i can't wait to hear who's next!

kimberly, whoa! slow it down mama, you did just have major surgery - i understand you're probably having cabin fever after being on bedrest so long, but don't overdo it going to outlet malls 2wks pp!!! sorry if i sound like i'm scolding you lol, i just don't want you to hurt yourself!

i've been a busy beaver today, feel like magemom (i think it was?) last weekend...vaccuummed and scrubbed out the inside of my expedition, swept and mopped our entire house (our house only has carpet in the 3 bedrooms), and am working on laundry now...i'm getting ready to wash the last of the baby stuff before ian comes! i'm crampy w/ a serious lower backache now, so i'm resting w/ half a watermelon (fresh outta our garden) in my lap

dh and i are going out sans kiddos for probably the last time before ian arrives...we're going to eat and then to watch the bourne supremacy, i can't wait hope you mamas have a great saturday!
Thanks for that info Laurie, it's hard to know just what I am though since I know that how dialated I feel is likely to be different than what it would be laying down being checked by someone else. I kinda feel like I'm stuck in some kind of prolonged sorta labor thing. My contractions have become consistently reagular and increasingly uncomfortable. I am very crampy and all. And, TMI, the contractions really make me feel like I have to go poo. I am also feeling sick, like nauseas and my tummy just aches. I'm starting to think this might be the build-up to labor starting, but I'm afraid to say that. I don't want to get my hopes up and for it to all go away. Then I'll just look silly

Kate, if you have the opportunity to say something, you should. I would be so scared if I were facing a hospital birth at the hospital here without a doula. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have access to a doula simply b/c I am unable to have a midwife or homebirth. Speaking of doulas, do you guys plan to get gifts for yours? If so, what? My doula is charging me only $300 compared to the going rate around here of $800 and I really feel like I want to do more to thank her.

Kimberly, I am so glad to here you are feeling so good. Of course we are going to worry about you though We don't want to see you feeling rundown.

It sounds like we are for the most part all doing well. It's funny there is such a change in the tone of everyone's posts. You can really tell everyone is ready for or getting ready for new babies very very soon.

BTW, we did buy a digital camera today, so once I figure it out I will post pictures of preggo me
