My mom uses wire cutters to cut the smooshed part off without damaging the cover.

Wire cutters, fingernail clippers, dremel w/drill bit, all have been reported to work. I like my husband's heavy duty toe nail clippers myself. :LOL

I smoosh it w/ the press. That's what Jessica at diaper shop told me to do and it takes a second.

I did that once too--be careful because I ended up with a huge hole in the spot where the snap was--guess I smooshed it too hard!

Yup, had the same problem with the smooshing, made a huge hole in the cover. Tried hammering one off once too, man was that a disaster. My mom just uses the wire cutters. Myself, I prefer a paring knife. It takes a bit longer, but I just sit and whittle away at the post in the center till that little button smooshed thing is gone(man I'm technical :LOL)
