Can all of you more experienced CD'ing mamas help me out? I've tried to find some kind of guide to the maze that is CDing but so far I just find sites selling me stuff and of course they are convinced that their product is the best, lol!

So... help??

What would you like to know Patchfire?

For first timers I usually recommend starting out with CPF's (prefolds) and Bummis covers. This is the most economical way. I plan to do a variety of prefolds fitteds and wool soakers/covers. But I have been thru 2 CD babes and know what I like, mostly. lol

If you want to go the fitted route the ones most recommended for newborns are

Kindheartedwoman from www.granolathreads.com (great customer service there)
Kissaluvs size 0 which you can get just about anywhere but www.diaperbabies.com has superb CS and is very quik to ship.
Elbees at elbeebaby.com
BittyBuns by www.diaperbabies.com I love her sherpa fitteds and her CS is excellent.
www.nessasnappies.com and www.bee-bos.com are 2 others I plan to buy fitteds from but i will be using their sm & med not newborns.

Prefolds can be bought just about anywhere but you want to make sure you are getting TRUE cpfs from green earth textiles and NOT babies textiles, those are not as durable. Indian prefolds also seem to be pretty popular but more expensive.

Bummis covers can be bought just about anywhere. I have a friend who makes the nanas woolies knitting me soakers and I plan to make my own wool jersey covers. I also plan to have a cushie tushie wool soaker (have a custom order in right now) and maybe someday a KSS or KIYP and a MM but those are just wants and not really needs.

I could really talk your ear off about CD lol

I often tell first-timers to try as many different kinds at first as you can afford and go from there. What works great on one baby, might not work so well on another, so the key for me is trying various different kinds and seeing what works best. DHs who might be cloth diaper shy tend to do great with pocket diapers and aios. Plus they're extra easy on the go. Though really, once you get into it, it's all pretty easy! Have fun! Shopping for the dipes is half the fun!

You might like a wrap sling (e.g. Didymos, Ellaroo) or something more constructed like the Ergo Carrier. With both of those, you can distribute dc's weight over both shoulders and your waist, and you can carry babies on your back quite young (which is so much easier than on the front!). Are you familiar with www.mamatoto.org? She has instructions for just about every wrap carry imaginable, also instructions for making your own cheap wrap sling.

What Jenniebug said
I like Indian prefolds better than Chinese (more absorbent and trimmer than chinese) and I found them very cheap at Granitesmith. I also like pockets for older babies overnight, and I am curious to try fitted on NBs because of their ability to catch runny poo.
But to know it ALL, you must dive head first in the CD world and ask the gurus at the diapering board here on MDC. Have you tried that? There is so much to learn and those ladies know everything! It is the best CD board in the web (believe me - I tried many!! :LOL ) Only problem is: you might get addicted!

No problem

There are slings similay to Didymos that are much more affordable. I am currently drooling over the ellaroo. Now being a slingmaker I could certainly make one of these wrap slings myself and save money but why when I can just buy it ready to go? :

Jennie

Can you PM me the names and maybe links for the slings similar do Dydimos?? They might work better for my chubby babues. I get so overwhelmed in the baby wearing board...

Window shopping is no fun.

I bought some more dipes to round out what I've already got. Other than that, all I needed was a car seat and sis is giving me her's. Two of my other children were born in March so I've got plenty of clothes in the right sizes for the right seasons.

I WISH I could shop, but I can't find anything to buy. : (It's not like I have money to spend anyway, but still!)

I have started knitting a bunting though--this kid's got to have SOMETHING that's not a hand-me-down.

Did you have specific questions about specific brands?

I used chinese prefolds with Bummis and Prowraps covers. I also have some aio (all in ones) that are....um...I think Bummis. At first, I thought the aio's would be convenient for when we were out and about, but once I started cding I realized that it's just as easy to use a prefold and cover.

Done! If you have any questions feel free to ask

Thanks for all the CD input. I poked around more online last night and discovered that I hadn't realised there was a difference between 'fitted' and 'contour.' Oops. I am sure I will have more specific questions later on, for now I'm still just trying to even figure out what the options are and what all the different terms mean.

And the Diapering board scares me! : It's so much information!

:LOL btdt Patchfire!

Have you been to www.diaperpin.com ? They have a diapering dictionary that explains what everything is and what the terms mean. Even an "expert" like me still gets overwhelmed by the vast amount of information and choices available. And it's always changing too. Sometimes I think gee its just so much easier to stick to prefolds and wraps but then again its fun to buy those cute diapers and covers/soakers.

Part of what I'm trying to figure out is what dh will use - he was fantastic with dd about taking over the diapering duties most of the time he was home, and I don't want to lose that! I'm sure that the easiest way to get him to use them would be AIOs, but I look at the price and go 'uh, no, not all the time,' lol. We shall see.

(And yes, the little tiny diapers are ADORABLE!!)
I found my dh was more apt to change diapers when I used babysoftwraps and mypreciousbabys. The plus side is you can re-use the cover since the soaker snaps-in making it a bit more affordable than a true AIO, and faster drying!

He also liked pocket diapers as long as they were prestuffed. Otherwise I would find them with a) nothing inside the pocket b) a wipe inside the pocket or c) a doubler inside the pocket.

I just got my first nb fitted yesterday. I have made some nb fitteds that were smaller than this so I am hoping this one will fit baby. But that is why I have preemie and infant CPF for backup

No shopping yet. My daughter is only 3 so naturally I still have everything. I was given 3 big bags of boy clothes so if this baby is a boy, I have some stuff and I know where the "used baby clothes store" is located and I plan to buy anything I may need there.

Our carseat is only 3 years old and only used by my daugther for 4 months (when she outgrew the height of 26 inches). I still have my swing but I don't have a sling and I'm thinking I'll buy one this time around and I'm considering cloth diapers.

Everything else, I have already!
