Oh the heals of the dyed PF mishap... Question?

I bought a Rainbow Rock Classic Tye Dye Kit to use with my PF- just wanted to have a little fun. BUT- I just read the other post about RIT dye bleeding everywhere... Has anyone used the Rainbow Rock stuff? Will it bleed too? It seems to imply that it is best used on natural fabrics so I thought it would be OK but don't want to risk it. Anyone have any advice? TIA! Becki

I havent tried that one but I gotta say that for anyone who wants to dye prefolds or whatever the procoin dyes are inexpensive and not hard to use at all. I use Dharma dyes and they ship quickly and dont cost much at all. That way you know its fool proof!

I used that exact kit on the other half of my prefolds with no problem. It's what gave me the courage to do the RIT...now I know that was misplaced. I did have a little trouble with the dye kind of making the "white" parts of the prefolds dingy looking, but they were unbleached, so it's hard to tell what was the dye or the prefold's original color.

I bought some that were dyed with the rainbow rock stuff...they are fine, but the colors aren't as bright and fade a bit faster than the dyes from dharma. You should be fine using them Just make sure you wash them separately first

We have used the Rainbow Rock Kit, and we haven't had any problems. Plus, I'm a little paranoid so we did wash them 4 times afterwards.

As long as you soaked the PF long enough in the soda ash solution and then let them cure at or above room temp(73ish) wrapped in plastic for a sufficient amount of time(4 hours minimum) then you are all good. Remember that PF are "thirsty" and require a bit more rinsing than say a playsilk.

I do my rinsing in the washing machine. I do a cold water rinse first(with synthaprol), stop the machine at the end of the "wash" cycle, do a new wash cycle with hot water(helps exhaust rest of dye in fabric). I repeat this last step atleast 2 more times, then do another cool water cycle and let the cycles go all the way through to spin(well, not with the silks!)

Colors that contain turquiose(hopefully denoted in the rainbow rocks kit) may require a little more rinsing cuz turquoise seems to be a little more stubborn.

Hope that helps!
Kathy
