How did you tell people?

With my DD we gave out gift bags- this time I am thinking of making a card that says

No ideas from me! I told my mother and one friend.. I'd say at least 70 people in real life know now plus another 100 online! :LOL

Everyone knows online- even my bestfriend ( I was on the phone with here when I took the test) But my parents are in Cali right now so I am going to tell them when they get back, and I cant tell my sister yet because she will tell everyone- lol...

i just told people and most of my sisters yelled. my one sister actually yelled a cuss out LOUD at work. my frienda card with her dd holding the preg o test. it was very cute. oh my dh bought cigars and handed them out

Call me silly, but I work at home...I took the test, scanned it, and emailed the image to my husband....he called me and said (jokingly) "Are you peeing on things and then putting them on the scanner?!?!" I also emailed it to a pregnant friend and to my pregnant sister (they both knew we were trying). Haven't told anyone else yet, but we'll be going to SIL's wedding in two weeks, and we plan to wait until the wedding is over, we're back at the IL's house relaxing and recounting the day, and have my dh just casually say "Wow! What a day for you guys! Your only daughter got married, AND you're going to be grandparents for the first time!" Then wait to see what happens...we'll see. I don't want to just TELL them, because some part of me wants to enjoy the shock value, but at the same time it just wouldn't match our personalities to make a really big deal out of it. That's our compromise.

I think we're going to wait until we're back home to tell my family. They live pretty close-by (about 2 hrs away), but I don't want the out-of-town inlaws to feel like they're always the last to know everything, so we're telling them first. Have NO IDEA how to tell my parents...not that they won't be happy, but I'm just nervous.

We have not told so many people yet, but the people we have told have a surprised look on their faces and say "ANOTHER ONE??". One "friend" asked if the baby was planned So you see... not so much excitment from people who are not in our immediate families
But come on... 4 kids is not such a big number is it?? DH says next time somebody looks too shocked he is just going to answer "And we still have about 13 years of fertility ahead of us" :LOL

With DS, we just blabbed it to everyone as soon as the test was +, :LOL.

With DD, we did a couple different thing. First, to tell DH, I got some baby socks and wrapped them in a little package. Since it was around Christmas, I told him that it was an early present. We used that same method to tell BIL who came to visit that Christmas. I told all my online friends by asking them to come check out a new website I created which was a little sit I had made up with a "we're expecting" poem! Everyone loved it. With my parents, I emailed them a "we're expecting" e-card b/c I was too chicken to tell them over the phone.

This time, I've just told everyone I know online, hehe. I have a baby blog, so I did the same kind of thing, asked them to check out my new website. Not planning to tell the family till year end (or DH's leaving the military, whichever comes first.)

Well....lessee.....with our first we sat my mother down and told her we were getting a divorce (to soften the blow I guess). We had only been married a few months and she spent a heck of a lot of money on our wedding, I wish I had had a camera of her face when we said that. We weren't quite sure how she would react since it was very unexpected. (we picked a special date to tell her also, Cinco De Mayo, so we would remember it)

With the second we did the typical 'I'm a big brother' shirt for our first and let everyone else figure it out. (special date for this one too, it was our wedding anniversary and my Aunt Rhonda's birthday who had recently passed away from melanoma)

With the third we planned ahead....my oldest was in his first recital so we put a congratulations ad in the program book thanking the grandparents for their support and signed it from Ryan, Brandon, and baby #3....then made them look for the ad (we wanted both sets to see it at the same time).

With this one (we've only told my mom and his parents) I made 'Grandma' bracelets and picked out stone beads in the colors of the birthstones of all the grandkids including the upcomming one. It didn't take my mom or his very long to figure it out.

Gosh, I feel very unimaginative about our announcement. We haven't told anyone irl yet, because I feel barely pregnant (EDD 3.22). I think I want to get used to it myself first. Last time we just called family and friends and told them as soon as the test was positive.

This time, 3 of my close friends have recently had multiple m/c so I don't think we'll make a big deal of it. I loved the idea of a website announcement - perhaps I could do that for family overseas.

OMG I just LOVE this idea!!

I used to visit my parents and greet them with "What's new?" to which they'd always say "Nothing." So, when I was preg with our first and they said that, I told them that I was really getting tired of hearing it and that the next time someone asks "What's new?" they should say, "I'm going to be a grandparent!"

When I told my brother, I simply greeted him with "Hi UNCLE Rick." (He didn't get it--his confused response was, "Why are you calling me that?"



With our second, I made a shirt for ds that said, "I'm the big brother." And he wore it to a family dinner.

With our third, we let the kids tell. dd said, "There's a baby in Mommy's belly." No one believed her. I had to jump in and confirm it.

This time, dd was the announcer again. She made up a riddle--"What takes 9 months...." It took a few minutes for it to sink in for my parents. My sister claims she knew I was preg the minute I walked in the door.

Polihaupt, I've definately found that the enthusiasm (from others) wanes after #2. (They just don't know what they're missing, right?)

What great ideas! I feel like I've missed out.

I told DH via email because I was out of the country and he was really pestering me about it. But if you think that's pretty horrible, I should add that we basically got engaged via email so it goes with our pattern.

I hadn't really thought how I was going to tell my firends. I was at a birthday party for a friend and everyone was there. One of my best friends mouthed, from accross the room, "How are you?" to me. I mouthed back "Pregnant" and she screamed "WHAT?!?! YOU ARE PREGNANT?" so loud that everyone heard. So I had no cute way to tell my friends either.

i know this is over a week old, but i can't be the only one who's recently jumped into the thread, can i? irl, dh & i each told a best friend by phone (& they told their spouses) and we told my mom. we did it pretty plainly. we were going to wait to tell our parents, but my mom's sis who is the only other one alive in her generation seems to be dying, so we wanted to give her something to balance out the grief a bit. it worked! we don't plan on telling anyone else for a couple/few months. pretty much we want to enjoy the quiet privacy of it while we can! you all had some good ideas though. i hadn't thought about coming up with cute way! i've been too focussed on how to deal with the il's worrying and their trying to lay on the stress when they find out. maybe we could email a pic of dh to everyone with him wearing some cheesy shirt like world's best papa of something? hmm...this will be fun. anyone else have ideas?
oh! we're planning on sending out an update letter with pics soon (we're working on a homestead in the woods and people like the pictoral updates we've sent out to keep them in the know), so maybe we could sneak a picture into the collage of photos and just see who finds it! we're discouraging any visitors for the rest of the summer since we've had so many and need to get more work done before winter hits hard, so by the time anyone gets the letter, i'll be showing alot and noone will have seen me irl! ooooh this is fun!

I've only told my mom and my dh. I had two loses prioir to dd ( way prior, 3 years +) and so now I wait. With dd I was 13 weeks before I told friends.

I ordered a shirt from www.granolathreads.com that says I will be a big sister in March 2005! I am then going to take her pic and print it off with the Kodak picture maker into cards that say Surprise! We will give those to our parents.
With our last 2 we told the inlaws over the phone, this time dh will be able to do it in person. And with the last pg we put the pos test into this heart shaped card with the DD printed out for my dad and his gf. It took them a few minutes to figure it out lol
