Dilation yet??? - Page 2

Thanks for the info, ladies! I had always assumed that you wouldn't start dilating until labor started. Learn something new everyday (learning lots more than expected now that I'm pregnant). The further into this pregnancy I get, the more uncomfortable I'm getting and lately, I have been feeling "something" down there.. Looking forward to my next visit with mid-wife at 36 weeks to see just what's going on.

We don't get checked here until we are actually in labour, and I don't think I want to know yet, so I'm going to wait and see Besides, i've never checked my own cervix, so I don't know what to compare it with.

Ooh, I'm glad I saw this thread today. I tried to check my cervix this morning, just kind of wanting to get some idea of how close I was, though I probably shouldn't have. I've checked it when I wasn't pg and was learning a bit about NFP. Right now, either my cervix is too far up for me to reach, or it's close to falling out. I felt something that was an awful lot like the tip of my cervix when I wasn't pregnant really low down, and everything is just so soft and mushy. I can't figure anything out. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one self-checking!

I asked my midwife last night what would be normal to feel at this point, and she said that my cx should be soft just because I'm pg now. I dunno if this is different because it's a second pregnancy - I distinctly recall being checked by a doc at 33 wks last time around (due to some mild ctx), and him remarking about it NOT being soft or dilating. Hrm. Anyhow - she also seemed to think the indentation I feel is not dilation, just normal - again, perhaps for a second pregnancy.

I'm curious how things may change in a few weeks! *may* change - silly me, they definitely will, eh?! Baby's gotta come out!

Yes, the cervix if softer in 2nd or later pregnancies.
