instead cup newbie

I bought Instead for the first time today. Let me just say, the diagram on the outside of the box, of the hand holding the cup, is NOT to scale!! Holy mackerel! Is my cervix really THAT freakin' big??

OK, so maybe I was really surprised by the size of the thing, maybe using it for the first time in a public bathroom at the pool with a curious 4yo watching was not great timing, maybe it's because I don't use "internal menstrual products," but gee, I couldn't figure the thing out.

Help! I really want to like this.

Those are the 'sposie' version of an internal cup. Try to get a 'Diva Cup'. Much more to scale, and once you put it in, you can wear it for LONG periods of time with no worries. Much more comfortable too. I tried a 'Instead' years and years ago, HATED how it felt. Not comfortable or easy to 'put in' by any means, 4 year old at a public pool watching or not....

I sometimes use these. Once I tried it a few times, I got a good fit, but I often get leakage before the thing is filled. I also reuse them by washing them out, but only for 1-1.5 days. then they go in the trash. I will eventually get rid of these 'sposies, but I thought i'd try the concept befor the BIG purchace.

Just practice, and if you still hate them, tell us why and maybe someone can lead you to a product you like better!!!

I found it was a huge learning curve-better to practice NOT during your period (or with toddler present, if that is ever possible) It was tricky, but once I learned how to fold and push in with upward movement, its now easy and I love them. And I was a diaphragm failure, it was always SO HARD to get it in correctly the way I am built-part of the reason I am a mom today! I need to just get a Diva cup, but with working FT and not in private BR, I think that might be difficult.

I used Instead before my 1st pg... after I gave birth I was never able to get them to work again. I've had pretty good luck with my DivaCup and have a Mooncup on the way to try and compare (very slight shape difference, I have an episiotomy scar that bothers me). I haven't experienced leaking with my DC and all menstrual cups have a money-back guarantee.

I have a page on my website that has more info on menstrual cups: http://groups.msn.com/busybusymomma/...clothpads.msnw
