Spatula Options? Saute Pan?

So, I've been using wooden spoons to scrape my Kithchen Aid mixer bowl. However, I see these neat spatula-spoons at Target but they're plastic. My MO right now is not to buy anything plastic (use what I have but replace with natural if possible). Any suggestions?

Oh, I also need a new saute pan but it seems like everything has some sort of non-stick coating. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks,

Pans, Scrapers

I love my 'bamboo' wooden spoons. One is even shaped like a 'spatula'. I have a 'silicon' spatula I use for cake making. It's a Pampered Chef item. High heat resistance and food grade (non reactive).

Silicon info: It was the 'liquid filled' breast implants that leaked and interfered with the body's immune system. If you have a solid silicon product, it's non-reactive. So silicon should be safe to use.

For cooking pots and skillets. I LOVE LOVE cast iron. A well seasoned and cared for cast iron skillet will no only last you a lifetime, but it works like a 'no stick' pan if treated properly! I have one my mom used, and it's probably close to 50 years old now. Works even better now!

All other pans are solid stainless steel. Aluminum core heat disks where it sits on the 'eye' is ok, distributed the heat faster, but make sure the cooking surface is 100% stainless.

I avoid teflon and 'no stick' surfaces like the plague! IF you have one, and it has even one tiny scratch, your food is being contaminated!

I do the same right now and I actually just found a great spatula wich is stainless steel and silicon. It's a bit more expensive but I think worst the extra money.

All my pots are stainless steal except one (which I should remplace !!). They work great and I just love them so much, make my life so much easier

Thanks for the replies!

Xenabyte - gotta love that Pampered Chef! I have a lot of it. Cast iron is something I'm going to look into.

Angelglove - do you have a brand name for your spatula?

Thanks,

Babyj,

Sorry for replying so late, I was just rereading the thread and saw your question. I finally purchased my spatula and love it so much !! I bought it in the canadian store "Independent grocer" which is part of Loblaws. Not sure if this shop exists in the US or not.

Hope this helps,
