dyeing wool carpet?

My dear friend gave me some really nice slightly used wool carpet to replace the nasty stuff we had. Needless to say that with kids and husband and not-so-good boundaries around eating in LR, the wool carpet is starting to look bad. It isn't nailed down and I am wondering if it is possible to dye it to hide the stains.

Im not sure how you would dye it, as in set the dye since you wouldnt be able to microwave it or boil it. One note though that caught my attention was you wanted to use it cover stains, usually stains wont dye, or dye well anyway, Ive found with all my diapers, and 1 wool cover that I dyed the stains showed up more, usually dyed an off shade of the color, the blues were blueish brown and some of the stains I hadnt even seen beforehand.
