I've been poo free for about two months now (I think ). I keep hearing about the once a week washers but that is just not happening for me. My hair starts getting pretty greasy after a few days. Actually when I used shampoo I could go longer w/o washing. So, is this just something that will take time? Or does the once a week thing really only work for a few?

I said 2-3 x a week. It is hotter than hell here and humid to boot. I never realized how much my head sweats. It gets stinky if I don't do it that much but in the winter I only do it 1-2 x a week. I'm still lovin' my bs and acv.

Me too! I did shampoo one day and my hair seemed limp and looked dull. I do bs w/honey and then an acv rinse (& then a lavender rinse) and it's going great.

I guess I just thought it would nicer to only wash once a week since you do have to make the bs mixture from scratch every time. It really is easy though, I was just being lazy.

I have been poo free for a month and a half. I do a BS, honey, rosemary mix every other day, and than a acv rinse. The off days I do only the acv. I take a shower everyday so I guess washing the hair is a habit. I have noticed a huge change in my hair, its so much fuller now.

I said 1-2 times a week with the baking soda, TTO and ACV wash, ACV with Rosemary rinse.

It feels greasy but doesn't look greasy, if that makes sense but like a previous poster said, it's hot and humid here and I don't like a smelly head

before going no-poo, I had to wash my hair at least once every day! If I washed my hair at night, it would look dirty by the time I woke up in the morning.

Now, I wash my hair once every two or three days, usually every other day.

I wash about once a week (the "about" part meaning that I sometimes don't get to until the 1-1/2 week mark). It's hot and humid here, too, but for some reason my hair just doesn't get greasy until after a week goes by.

The honey sounds interesting... do you actually mix it in with the baking soda? Does it all come out with the ACV rinse?

Right now I'm doing baking soda and then ACV with peppermint and some sort of citrus oil. It feels so refreshing! I've used shampoo twice since going no-poo and it's amazing the difference - the shampoo makes my hair amazingly dull, limp and unmanageable while the no-poo routine leaves it feeling so healthy!

Dragonfly: (re: honey) I put a little hot water in a cup and add the bs, mix and then add some honey and mix. It doesn't clump up or anything. It washes right out. I found my hair was nicer when I added the honey than when I just did bs.

I'm still wanting to try that rosemary. Everyone seems really happy with it.

Do try it. I love it, I often have to run out with wet hair and have gotten comments about how good I smell and I know it's not the ACV

Depends on your definition of "Wash". I shower and wet down my hair every day, but I only use something (bs, honey, whatever) 2 or 3 times a week. I can skip a day without watering my hair (which I could NOT do on poo!) but I prefer not to.

I know what you mean! Regarding the rosemary, do I buy it as an essential oil?

nak

once a week. took me a while to "get there" ie not be real oily in between.

2 weejs ago i started getting very oily about midweek again -- had to reassess my routine, realized i was using less honey in my bs mix & drying my hair out too much with each wash. think i've got it back on track now.

esp. in hot weather, i rinse my hair out (watering your hair, hee hee) at least 2x in between washes.

currently experimenting with conditioner-only washing. seems like my hair likes it better than baking soda at the moment.

I make up a batch that lasts me 2 weeks or more. I use 2-4 T. bs in a 32 oz. pump bottle and enough HOT water to dissolve then top off with warm water. Then I just pump the bs/water mix right on my head.
For the acv I have a 32 oz. spray bottle that I add a cup of acv and top off with water-then just spray on after I rinse the bs out.
I feel off the wagon last week and used poo. YUCK! My hair did not like it at all and the greasies were full blown! I went right back to no poo.
I've been no poo since January!
I wash every or every other day (voted every other). I do a lot of yard work and get all sweaty so I need to shower everyday so I can cool off in this heat-besides clean up.

I had been told that a batch wouldn't work and would clump up. I'm definatley going to give that a try. Thanks for the tips!

I "wash" with bs/acv only once a week. I have experimented with other things to rinse-herbal tea, beer. Most days, a real good rinse with water is all I need. I was a wash every day girl just a month ago! My hair is so thick and feels great. I am battling itchies, tho. I have had this same problem PPD with all my kids, so linking it to that as opposed to the no poo. Thanks for all the inspiration, girls!

What are the benefits of beer? I'm interested in learning more.

Hello!

I'd love to be 'poo' free, I am assuming it's shorthand for shampoo haha

I also am trying to decipher your shorthand. I got BS for Baking Soda and ACV for apple cider vinegar. Honey is easy. What's the proceedure or the link to the thread describing how to mix this up and what to do for hair washing.

I used to brew cinnamon tea and pour that on my hair as a final rinse way way back. Used to get ALL kinds of nice comments from the guys.

Well, I think there are a lot of different ways to do it. Someone in another no poo thread mentioned starting a thread w/recipes and I think that's a great idea.

Usually the best way to start is to just wash with the baking soda (bs) and then do an Apple Cider Vinegar (acv) rinse just like you would w/conditioner. I put hot water in a cup and then add the bs, I also add a little bit of honey and mix it all up w/a spoon. I just wet my hair in the shower and then pour on and wash w/the bs mixture, rinse then put in some acv, then rinse. That's it.

You'll start noticing a difference after just a week or two. It really is amazing. HTH

Yes, I have to agree that the difference is truly amazing. I started one month ago with bs wash and diluted lime juice rinse (could never get past the smell of the acv even tho it went away after my hair dried, and I LOVE the smell of the lime and it actually worked better on my hair anyway). I went through a stage of extreme greasiness...during that I just wore my hair in a ponytail every day. But NOW, my hair is amazing. I have very thick hair with some waviness with some areas that are more curly than others and since the no poo, it is silky and NOT frizzy ever and I don't use any gel and it is summer and I live in Miami! I can go a few days without washing but I have always been able to do that. I usually just plain water rinse every day though b/c it is so hot here and the wet hair keeps me cool.
