Not sure what benefits there are, but I'm old and I remember the Body on Tap shampoo in the 80's-lol! It seemed to add a bit of body and held me over a few days instead of a bs/acv wash. I just used a few Tbsp. and diluted it with water and used it after I had rinsed with plain water.

I'll have to give that a try Michele!

Laura, does the lime juice work as well as the acv WRT tangles? I might give that a try too.

Or I might just try making some more yummy chicken fajitas w/the beer & lime! :LOL

For me, the lime juice works BETTER than the acv. I do the juice of 1/2 a lime in a big 32 oz. cup of water and just pour it on after doing the bs mix. It really makes my hair feel like I put conditioner on it and it is really easy to comb through (and my hair is thick!) Try it...you'll probably never go back to acv! :LOL

How did you do this? Just steep some cinnamon bark or ground in some hot water? Thanks!

I wash with bs/acv or whatever 1-2 times a week, a few other times a week I just wet it down with warm water in the shower. If I wanted it to look really nice I would probably wash more often but considering I stay home all day with the kids and don't go out too often I don't mind if one day it looks a bit more flat or oily. On weeks I want it to look nicer I can still get away with washing 3 times a week max. I sometimes only use acv as a rinse after massaging my scalp under the hot water of the shower. I am afraid to use bs too often because it lightens my hair.

MamaAllNatural: I use "real" conditioner (Suave Naturals Coconut ... "Naturals", yeah right ). Seems cheap, runny conditioners work best.

The procedure: Wet my hair. Towel dry a bit, just so I'm not dripping. From the chin up, glop on lots & lots of conditioner till every bit of hair is coated. Wind my hair up in a sloppy bun. Leave about 5 minutes. Hop in the shower, add a little water to my hair, lather up (yes, it lathers, a little). Rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse and RINSE. Some people follow this with an acv rinse, but that makes my hair all limp & floppy.

It sounds silly, but I wage an almost-constant battle with my anti-consumer sensibilities about this method of washing, really I do. My big goal is to get synthetic products *out* of our house, not to mention I have this weird fetish for keeping the bathroom clear of clutter. Plus, I'm still not convinced the crap in the conditioner is good for my hair in the long run. OTOH, it's easier than mixing up the baking soda wash, and I like the way my hair turns out. I'm still not sure why my hair got so dried out suddenly with the baking soda, & I'm spooked it'll happen again. And who am I to argue with what my hair seems to like?

Oh well. At least it's better than shampoo, right?

Cinnamon Rinse

Pilesoflaundry:

I was living in Monterray Bay, CA and I would buy 'cinnamon' loose leaf tea and or 'bagged' tea from a little tea shop on the 'Warf'.

I steeped the loose or bags in hot water until it was 'warm' and could be safely poured on my head. (I left a bowl sitting on counter while I showered and grabbed it after I was done cleaning). I put loose in a 'tea ball' to keep out the leaf bits, so I wouldn't have to rinse THEM out afterwards and loose the wonderful smell!

I have brown hair with 'reddish' highlights that get more reddish if I am in sun alot. The cinnamon tea gave it a nice 'depth' of color and smelled GREAT! Tea is naturally a bit astringent and also left it feeling 'squeaky clean' without feeling 'stripped'.

I guess you could use lighter teas if you are blonde (that smell good to you) and I've heard you can use brewed, cooled coffee to give you a 'dark rinse' that will help color and condition hair that is going 'light.'

I had never heard of baking soda for hair, but I do use it for teeth and 'Netti Pot' nose rinsing water. Plus, it is a great all around cleaner for the house!
