easiest/best homemade front wrap?

I used a sling - some - for my first two, but the thing just made my back ACHE. So this time I want to try a front/wrap carrier along the lines of the Moby, the EllaRoo, etc. And I want to sew it myself. I've found three or four (at least!) patterns/instruction sets on the web, and I'm really not sure what to try. I am not a very experienced seamstress, either, so I need something I can actually DO!

So, I was hoping that I could get some advice here on what pattern I should try first. Any advice?

My new favorite carrier is the ring-wrap sling I made. It's really easy to make, you don't even have to hem the edges of the fabric if you don't want to. I keep mine fastened all the time and just pull it over my head like a shirt.

I saw and bookmarked that one! Glad to hear a positive review. Did you see this page? FrankenKozy That's another one I bookmarked and thought I might try to sew. Why did you choose to sew the ringwrap? And where did you get the ring you used?

Oh! And I read your "cannonball" birth story. What an incredible experience! I think the EMTs were the worst part. What arrogance! Refusing to cover you, refusing to take you to the right hospital.... They sound more arrogant and controlling than a lot of the doctors I read complaints about. And that is really saying something! I'm so glad you were able to have Kieran vaginally - though the rest of the experience sounds pretty awful. I wonder why he flipped from head down so close to birth-time. Well, whatever was going on, it sounds like it all worked out ok in the end and thank heavens for that - at least.

There are easy instructions on www.mamatoto.org for making a simple ellaroo type wrap. HTH!

The FrankenCosy looks cool, though a bit more effort all around than I wanted to do. I don't remember where I found the link for the ring-wrap, I think I just had done a search for slings, but I liked the idea and the fact that it was fast to use. I got the ring from http://slingrings.com You need the biggest size since you put so much fabric through it.

Yeah, the EMT experience was pretty horrid. My MWs know someone who does inservices for EMTs and she's asked if I can speak at one of them, just so they can know what it can be like and maybe offer some insight for them. I am happy with how it ended up (getting to have a natural, vaginal birth) but would rather have avoided any hospital stuff. I basically got everything that I absolutely hate about hospital birth and didn't even get the benefit of having my family or MWs present
