I have been listening to the 13 Going on 30 soundtrack and I was wondering for those of you who liked music in the 80's (that would be DH snickering), what's your fave?

Safety Dance? Tainted Love? Vacation? You Can Call Me Betty...?

Thomas Dolby, Europa and the Pirate Twins!

Most anything by the Police!

Easy. "Love My Way" by Psychedelic Furs. Hands Down! Ok, "Our House" by Madness is a CLOSE runner up...

(DH chimed in with "I Melt With You" by Modern English...he has a good point...)

80's-ingly

One of my all time favs is "Sweet Dreams" by Annie Lennox. Others include "I go to Pieces" by Paul Janz,
anything by the Cars,
"All she wants to do is Dance" by Don Henley
"Betty Davis Eyes" Kim Carnes (?)

There's tons more.......just can't think of them right now..........

Hard to choose between the best U2, REM and Talking HEads stuff.

It's hard to hear anything through the wall of overproduced sound anyway

Oh man the 80s were just cool.

Boys of Summer, Sledgehammer....oh! Love Phil Collins!

David Bowie, The Cure, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode.. =) Also Psychedelic Furs!

This was posted on another group I post in - Enjoy! - http://www.yetanotherdot.com/asp/80s.html

ETA : Final Score: 146.5 "The 80s are my life."

Wow, I really AM a dork.

My first thought was, There were NO good songs in the 80's. Then I remembered Paul Simon's Graceland album came out in the 80's. My pick would be something from that. And of course there was Elvis Costello. And the Talking Heads. So I guess the 80's weren't a complete loss.

I know, this is supposed to be a thread for people who, for some strange reason, LIKE 80's music. Sorry.

No good songs in the 80's? Sorry Daff, but in it's own dorky, acid-washed, hairsprayed way, the 80's rocked. Hard.

Feast your eyes on what will shortly be mine...all mine (alliwenk laughs maniacally...):

Like...fer sure...

sigh...I can't wait until it gets here...

Ooh, a ton of good music came out of the '80's, even if it isn't what immediately comes to mind when someone says "80's music":
Peter Gabriel
U2
REM
The Police
Kate Bush
Eurythmics/Annie Lennox
Talking Heads

Thank you...now I'll hear Living on a Prayer all day, lol.
My faves are the soundtracks to Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful, and Say Anything and "Safety Dance" by Men without Hats (I have to boogie every time I hear it)

why, everyone knows 'shoot out the lights' was the best album of the decade-

("Absolutely perfect, an album for which even five stars seems not enough." – Rolling Stone Album Guide

"This record has no contemporary equal." – Time)

but yeah, the 'heads- i just was blasting a live album in the car last week ('isn't life during wartime' urgent at full blast ?), elvis costello, eurythmics, the clash, graceland, sigh.

('gloria'? bon jovi? man, i didn't like having to listen to that the first time 'round, it's what drove all the good music off the radio! i'm gonna be gritting my teeth listening to 'gloria' play in my head now for days! btw, anybody remember david spade talking about the laura brannigan concert on 'snl'? :LOL)
