Geeze. 67 points. I suck. And I knew most of the songs, but I'm tired.

Bow down before the one you serve, you're going to get what you deserve. HEAD LIKE A HOLE, BLACK AS YOUR SOUL. I'D RATHER DIE THAN GIVE YOU CONTROL.

I just LOVE that song.

134.5 points not bad for being born in 1978

Everybody has already named most of the songs that come to mind

Oooh wait - Alphavillle: Forever Young

Anyone else get a kick out of the song that's currently playing on the radio......................1985? :

That song must have been written about mamas like us.....................

"Bruce Springstein, Madonna, way before Nirvana..........there was U2, and Blondie..........."

My favorite line "When did Motley Crew become classic rock?" :

Yes! At first I thought it was a Wierd Al compilation, but it's funny and I love it.

Pop music: "Stop the World" by Modern English

In my musical world: "Blue Monday" by New Order; or anything by Kissing the Pink or Cabaret Voltaire; or "Get Off The Road" by The Cramps; or "Mein Schmertz" by Lena Lovich; "Drive" by Shona Laing; "Fields of Fire" by Big Country; anything sung by Blixa Bargeld (Einsturzende Neubaten)

Humor: "Hole in My Shoe" by Neil the Hippie (only the Brits on here are going to get that)

Can you tell that I was living outside the US for much of the 80's? Also, didn't listen to much top 40.

Mine has to be "Take On Me (Take Me On)"

the other night on our way home, i happened to loose the classic rock station (hair band rock) and catch a cool late 80's song on another pop station. well, after that the next song was "1985" and i also thought it was weird Al. By the time we got home, my oldest son (who is 4 1/2) was singing "1985". I've been singing it the last few days.

I have a funny 80's music story. It all begins with the first date that dh and I went on several years ago. The radio station that was on the radio was having a "80's night" and it was appropriate to the days that we were growing up and we got to talking about all of those things, junior high dances, our friends, "oh this song reminds me of ..." type of things. Anyway, on our one year anniversary of our first date, my dh gave me a tape (a mixed tape - we must be from the 80's ) and wrote me a poem. Here's how the poem went:

Ever since the Genesis of our relationship, when you were a virtual Foreigner, I have wanted to be your Prince.

It has not been a Journey to Boston or Chicago, but it has been one that makes me want to "Shout".

I want to have my own Quiet Riot because I am "Head Over Heals" for you.

I am no longer an "Owner of a Lonely Heart" because I am your Loverboy.

My life was lonely, then Wham! your love snuck up on me like The Police.

Because of you and ds (because of U2) I have love that is INXS of anything I could ever have imagined and I hope that you love me long after UB40.

I know that a relationship needs to work out The Kinks in order to be a Survivor and I think that we have done this very well.

The only thing I want to add about our relationsip is that it has been one great "Thriller" ride so far and it makes me want to sigh A-ha.

Kind of goofy but definitely reflective of our first date. He then went on to propose to me and of course it is one of the best memories I have. It made me laugh to read the title of this thread and of course I thought of the night my dh proposed. Thought I'd share.

WOW! That is so cool!

Ah, yes. The 80's. Good thread here. I'd say Bela Lougosi's Dead, by the Bauhaus. That song really kicked Goth into high gear. Basically made it what it was.

I never really liked the top 40 stuff, (my score was a pathetic 25.6). I liked other music. But the Eurythmics with Sweat Dreams, and the Art of Noise with Beatbox, started me on my electrical music listening ventures.

Here are some of my favorite 80's bands. Chime in for those who know!

Current 93
Cabaret Voltair
Coil
SPK
Nick Cave
Butthole Surfers
Big Black
Bauhaus
Sisters of Mercy
Joy Division
Ministry (both incarnations)
Swans
World of Skin
Tones on Tail
This Mortal Coil
Alien Sex Fiend
Skinny Puppy
Happy Flowers

Scene in our house this morning: I'm running out the door simultaneously yelling to the kids to get into the car because we are going to be late, and I'm suddenly struck by the fact that I am a working mother of two, driving a Subaru and living in the suburbs. And the line that pops into my head:

"Well, how did I get here?"

Gotta love those Talking Heads.

Also the Police, Phil Collins, any of the British bands.

Not sure if this has been brought up here (I didn't have time to read all 8 pages of the thread), but I was also a fan of Big Country back in the day. Anyone remember them?

This is a fun thread...

Mia

ah yes! Big country. That is the only song I know by them.

I was watching vh1 classics a couple of nights ago and they played the china girl video (David Bowie).
