Fruit Flies!! Icky!

How do I get rid of these $#@%! fruit flies!!

Supposedly they can even live and breed in a damp sponge (?) and simply getting rid of (or completely sealing) all fruits and veggies hasn't worked.

Does anyone have any ideas? I just can't face the thought of having to scrub down every surface in the kitchen again!

I use the vaccum for flies, set out some fruit and wait for them to come

this is gonna sound crazy but i guy i dated used to do this, he would put a shot glass full of vodka in the sink, sit it in the drain. the next mornign they were gone! worth a shot!

This works great!!!!!!!!!! I have used it several times with great success:

take a glass . . any will do. Fill it about 3/4 of the way with water. Add 2 tablespoons each of sugar and vinegar. Then add a few drops of your dishwashing soap. Place that in the area where the fruit flies seem to be and wait. You'll catch them!!!!! Throw out the mix and make a new one every couple days until the flies are gone.

i've used different stuff for catching fruit flies- molasses, vinegar, and dishwashing soap... i set out a few little cups of a sweet & vinegary & soapy mix where the flies like to be and change 'em every few days...
and try to take out the compost as quick as i can, and not let any fruits rot. check often!
