What do you use on your face?

Thread Starter
After all this no poo talk I'm really wanting a better solution for my face. I currently spend way too much on stuff with way too many chemicals (origins). But it works. I am relatively zit free most of the time, esp if I use my foundation with acne fighter in it too.

I really want to go makeup free most days and I could do it while pg. My skin was lovely! Now it is back to greasy, zitty, yuck!

I have tried tto, I have tried several natural products over the years. Nothing seems to work. I am willing to go through a detox phase if that is what I need but I don't want to just look like a teenager again with no end in sight!

Help!!!

I don't use any makeup or skin products and wash only with water. My skin is perfect (unlike when I used such products and had zits.)

You know, I used to spend lots of money on all sorts of fancy facial products, yet nothing seemed to help my "problem" skin. I'm prone to break outs on my forehead and chin, yet my cheeks get REALLY dry. I finally chucked all my stuff and started using Dr. Bronner's (alternating between the peppermint or the lavendar, depending on whether I wash my face in the shower or at the sink) and my skin has never looked or felt better! There were a few troublesome weeks while my skin got used to being without so much "stuff" on it, but now it's great!
I do still get the occasional zit, but I just dab a little TTO on it. My cheeks aren't ever dry anymore either! I love my cheap and easy skin routine!

I started the no poo regime in January and a couple months later weaned myself off of product for my face. It actually took me a couple months to feel good about the way my face feels (it looked fine, it just felt drier than I was used to). Now, it's the middle of summer and I only have a dot or two at my period and I love my skin the rest of the time.

I just use warm water & that's it. No soaps.....I have the occasional zit but not too often.

For me there is no way I can not use products. My skin has always been terrible. The only thing that works for me is Proactive. So everynight I have to do my three step routine.I always envied those who could just rinse their face and go to bed.

And during the day I always wear either an oil free sunscreen or a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen.I think those products do cause my skin to be oily and break out.So I have to choose between sun damage or oily skin

I am still waiting to reach the point where I just don't care about these things anymore :LOL

I make my own face cleanser, using castile soap. almond oil, vinegar, and EO's. I love it! And it even washes waterproof mascara off.

I live in the AZ desert and my skin is so DRY all the time and is showing signs of aging because of the sun and dry air.

So what I do that works (finally got my regimen down) is wash with Oil of Olay facials, then when out of the shower I put on Balmex diaper rash cream. Yes you heard right! Never had a problem with blackheads or anything, and it really heals dry skin and keeps it soft. Discovered it because I have eczema on my face and Balmex is a great healer of it. Then before I go out I use Nutragena face cream with SPF 30 in it.

I used to have enough zits to sink a battleship, till I was 27 or so. Not sure what it was that cleared it up (maybe a combination of going off the pill, quitting foundations, zit creams, strong cleansers and astringents and age?), but here's what I've been doing for a few yrs now (I'm 32 now)

Wash morning only with whatever handmade soap I have that week. Use Oil of Olay moisturizer with sunscreen. No foundation or powder most days.

In winter I moisturize at night with a heavy emollient like shea butter (!) or a natual product like Burts Bees Night cream (it's pretty heavy too). During the day I use oil of olay or plain grapeseed oil if I'm not going anywhere (it's a pure oil that is absorbed quickly). Surprisingly, no zits or blackheads. I never would have dared to use these oils when I was younger. I have combo to oily skin now, fwiw.

I use water and a washcloth, I have never used anything else on my face. I wear makeup only if I'm going out and somedays if it's a quick trip and I'm in a I don't care mood I don't.

I have had an acne problem since I was 11. All my health problems started when I was 11(I got AF then too). :

I recently went to a wholistic healthcare worker for my headaches, she did a workup(me answering a bunch of Q's) and believes that my headaches, the acne and some other things are due to an overgrowth of yeast. She had a whole regieme of things she wanted me to take. At the minimum it was $200/month,lol so I'm not doing it. I did go to a pharmacy and buy acidophilous(one of her recommendations but 1/4 the price) and when I remember to take it I do notice a huge improvement in the acne. If I'd take it on a regular basis it'd probably go away.

I was using Dr. Haushka's cleanser as my skin is prone to breakouts and did notice an improvement with it. But, it's so expensive I've been alternating with a homemade cleanser (from Rosemary Gladstar's family herbal book) -- white clay, ground almonds, oatmeal, rose petals and lavender. I like it a lot!!!

I also started using a red mineral clay on my face every couple of nights (from the bulk herb section at Whole Foods)...and while I'm letting it dry, my babes make designs on their faces with the leftover clay on my hands...party in the potty -- don't we all just live for that?

Water. If a zit threatens, some tree tee oil. Almond oil if needed. Sunscreen. Make sure I get lots of water, vit. C and essential fatty acids in my diet.

It is so cool to read so many other people just use water. IRL people think I'm so weird for not using tons of products.

I've noticed when I using the cleaners it makes my skin break out worse! So, I use plain ole soap and water and the zits are clearing up.

This is the same with me...I want an alternative...I am getting tired of paying so much for these cleaners as well, KWIM?

I read someplace how oil dissolves oil,so I use VCO - virgin coconut oil - on my face.I massage a little bit in all over & let it sit for awhile, then take a washcloth & wring it out in very warm water & kind of hold it near my face to steam it a bit. Then gently wipe off the excess oil.My skin feels soft & non-oily,my laugh lines & wrinkles seem less pronounced.I love it! I'm currently using Castor oil and extra virgin olive oil. I really like it. There's a thread around here some where about "Oil Cleansing Method" or something.

I have extremely sensitive skin, rosacea, and ocular rosacea. Just about everything irritates my skin--including the rosacea medication I was prescribed , but if I don't keep the area around my eyes clean my eyes get inflamed. When I can afford it ($20 a bottle which lasts about 6 months) I use iGiene (sp) which I get from my eye doctor. It's (don't laugh like dh does) an eyelid cleanser. Very gentle, keeps my eyes looking like I party too much. On the rest of my face I use just water and lukewarm water. If the water is too hotor too cold my skin will flare up. Then I put "Vasotonic" by CG Collins (I think) and their lotion for highly sensitive skin. Both these products cost an arm and a leg, and I have to get them at the day spa where I get my eyebrows shaped (which doesn't bother my skin). These things keep the redness at bay, except when it's really hot outside. Sunscreen helps that to a point, but usually on really hot days I resign myself to looking like a beet. I've tried cheap soap, Dr. Bronners, day spa soap, it all irritates my skin. During the winter I use a little olive oil.

I'm still using a commercial cleanser (natural products, but commercial still), but use a toner I make myself with aloe vera gel, witch hazel, grapefruit EO and cypress EO. When I remember, I do a honey mask. The older I get the drier my skin gets, but still with problem blackhead-y areas (like my nose, forehead and chin). Keep it moisturized enough is a huge problem... going to try grapeseed oil, maybe.

Oh, I'm so glad you started this thread, I was just thinking that I wanted to change my skin routine. I am currently using Pond's anti-aging foam, but has anyone tried the Kiss my Face line? I'd like to try them. I did use Burt's Bees tomato soap for awhile, but I got sick of having a slimy bar of soap when I travelled.
