What are some good children's books?

I would like to find Bran some AP-related children's books...anything with breastfeeding, slinging, co-sleeping, or otherwise APing related themes. I'm kinda tired of having to skip pages in books because of references to insults or spanking or stuff like that... I realize he's only 8 months, but I'll take titles for any age range up through mid-childhood...

It's not particularly AP (at all) but we just love Goodnight Moon .

Do you use your library? It's the best way to try out books and find what you like and then go buy those. 'Course I'm partial....

Looking forward to other replies.

Hi,

I'm a fanatic when it comes to children's books. I'm reading 100 Best Books for Children, which I love because it lists some of my favorite childrens books with lots of back stories and fascinating tidbits.

Anyway, this is the Board Book list. The books aren't specifically AP, but they are great books.

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown

Mr. Gumpy's Outing by John Burningham

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

Freight Train by Donald Crews

The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss

Mr. Gumpy's Outing and The Very Hungry Caterpillar are some of my 2yo's favorites.

We have Welcome With Love and it's a great book with beautiful pictures, but way too advanced for an 8 month old or even a toddler. I would say maybe some 3 yo would like it but it's geared for 4 and up.

We also have The Cuddlers and it also has nice pictures. But there isn't much of a storyline and the words are a bit too unwieldy to appeal to children. It's one of those books that just sits on our shelf, unread.

I do remember reading Only the Cat Saw and liking it.

Mem Fox and Jean Marzollo are both well-known authors. I would think that their books would be good, although I haven't seen the particular ones mentioned.

I have Welcome with Love, a great book about homebirth, with nice illustrations. We got it for our then 3 year old when I was pregnant and it was a great way to address her questions and get her prepared for the birth. A Ride on Mother's Back is also very nicely illustrated, and is all about baby carrying by moms, dads, and other family members from cultures around the world, and shows a newborn nursing in her sling. We like to nurse is cute but I wasn't as impressed with the illustrations. Only the Cat Saw is really sweet.
