I was just reading about babymoons in a childbirth book. It sounds so lovely but is it realistic? And how can we make it more realistic? We have five kids and dh has to work or he doesn't get paid. Anyone planning a babymoon?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I definately am! My mom will be here for about 4 weeks after baby is born
If she wasn't able to travel and visit then I would hire a post-partum doula or a mothers' helper to help with childcare, cooking & cleaning.

I planned on doing one last time.....and then realized that if I "took time off" and let the rest of my family run my household, well, nobody would, and I'd be left with an overwhelming mess at the end. SO I did have to let outsiders in, just to keep some semblance of order while I got the rest I needed. I also found that I couldn't stay in for very long - I wanted to go OUT & show my beautiful homebirthed baby to the world! :LOL He went to his first LLL meeting at the age of 3 days

We quite unexpectedly got one. between dh and friends I hardly had to lift a finger to cook meals or deal with my older children. It was heavenly. We just sat around going goo goo over each others for about two weeks.

We had a long one!
After this last birth we took four months off together as a family. (Canada) We are entitled to a year of maternity leave, 15 weeks i think of maternity leave and 37 of parental. The parents may divide the parental leave or take it for a shorter period of time together. Since I hadn't gone back to work since my first son was born I wasnt able to apply, but my partner was able to take the whole 37 weeks if he chose. They only offer 55% coverage though. As we are quite low income already we really had to budget. It was sooo worth it as we all cozied in for a winter of slow living and cuddlin'! Barely leaving the house for that time and having the most important support there. Lucky I know... and it will be a fond memory for me. That was my babymoon!

Wow I am envious of you all. It sounds fantastic to be able to do that. When dd was born, my husband was working 90 hours a week. He is a chef and it was over the Christmas period. She was my first baby, and I was so overwhelmed with it all, long labour and pushing time, breastfeeding problems and lack of support. None of my family live in the US, so it was very hard and I had no friends here either to fall back on. I just remember it as being a very tough time for me emotionally.
My mil did live with us then , and as much as I love her, she was unsupportive and didn't help at all. She waited for me to cook dinner!!!! I couldn't even take a shower, let alone think about food! Anyway, this time I am hoping for a babymoon!

My dh has taken a month of with each of our girls. We where both ready for him to go back to work at the end of the month. We where both bored is why, I was tired of sitting around and he tired of having nothing much to do. Before each baby is born we clean house from top to bottom so there is very little house cleaning to be done for awhile.
With this baby there maybe a shortage of officers in his department so he may only be able to take 2 weeks off, which should be fine other than how am I going to take a nap when our girls dont nap.
they may have to take an hour of quite time.
Our oldest went out at couple hours old and and our second went out at a day.

Yes, we will be having a babymoon. My dh usually takes off 3 weeks from work; the first week nobody is allowed to call him for any reason. After that he will agree to do some work from home, but he won't actually go in to work. He takes care of all the cleaning and cooking while the baby and I (and probably Alec!) stay in bed having skin-to-skin contact and nursing and recuperating. I will also request no visitors for the first week; I did this last time and it was a great decision. I didn't have to worry about walking around without my shirt or not having showered or whatever. If we INVITE someone over (like we did last time for my parents) that's okay, but I don't want anybody inviting themselves over for any reason.
