David Sedaris fans?

I heart him ... so much. His writings make me laugh out loud and want to read it to whomever is in the room with me. I just love him.

Anyone else? I just started his new book ... I'm busy with a new puppy, so my time to read or knit or be online is severely limited right now, but I'm itching to get to it!

Me! I David Sedaris too! I haven't had a chance to pick up his latest but Me Talk Pretty and Naked are the funniest books I've ever read.

Have either of you read Barrel Fever? It's older, but SO FUNNY!

The audiobooks are fun too b/c he reads them himself. Great for long drives!!

I'm an Amy Sedaris fan too

Oooh, I love him! This is me reading David Sedaris: : (Yeah, yeah, I know he's gay, but there's something about a good writer... )

I've also read "Me Talk Pretty One Day" and "Naked". I want to get the new one, but haven't saved up enough pennies yet.

I have good memories of reading "Me Talk Pretty..." I'd bring it to work and read on my lunch break, so I'd be sitting in Subway or in the lunchroom at work or wherever, laughing out loud and dying to tell everyone what was so funny!

(I didn't know about the audiobooks.. I'll see if my library has them!)

Costco has the new one for $14 and overstock.com has books at nearly 40% off!

thechrysalis, sorry to hear about your friend. that must be really hard.

I didn't care for this new one as much. I generally : through all his books, but not this time.
The audiobooks are dangerous! We got Holidays On Ice for the drive down to my ILS at Christmas, and my dh was laughing so hard he was crying and couldn't see and nearly wrecked the car!

Dammit! I just realized I was in Paris, and David Sedaris LIVES there, and I should have hunted him down or something.

I'm a French teacher, so that story about explaining Easter in French class in Me Talk Pretty can make me cry laughing every time. First heard him on This American Life...we just got the audio box set and are going to listen to it on our cross country trip this fall. I love him!

I found the new book less funny and more, well, sad, or ... pathetic isn't the word, but he definately gets more into himself at times in his life and I don't know. Not so much laugh out loud.

I just picked up Barrel Fever for a buck!

He cracks me up! I haven't read the new one though.

Oooooh, audio tapes! Gonna find me some!

I love his books - Naked was my favorite - then Barrell Fever. I read Me Talk Pretty One Day last month and it was good - but not as funny to me. I heard that his new one is not so funny but has more feeling. I am on the wait list at the library . . . Can't wait to get it.

I'm looking at 'Me Talk Pretty One Day' in my bookshelf right now. I can still remember how hard I laughed when I read it.

There was a good NY Times article about David Sedaris sometime back around May. The reporter likened him to a rock star in the book world as over a thousand people showed up a Barnes & Noble book signing recently. I couldn't help but feel that the reporter was frankly jealous of David Sedaris' success. The reporter never seemed to tip his hat to Sedaris. He just reported facts about him but never warmed up and lauded him. Yeah, I'd say that the reporter was green, green, green, with envy!!!

love, love, love david sedaris. I agree that the newest book was a bit less funny. I only laughed out loud a few times.

One more David Sedaris fan here. Just thinking about the story in which he gets into being in a Shakespeare play so much he scotch-tapes a feather to his ballpoint pen and addresses his mother like "prithee good woman" makes me chuckle out loud.
