I love David Sedaris (& his sister Amy Sedaris, "Strangers With Candy" is one of my all time favorite television shows)

I've read all of Sedaris's books except the new one. The first book of his that I read was Me Talk Pretty One Day. I read it on a plane while traveling with my then 10 year old son. I was laughing so hard and so loud (although I was really trying to act as normal as possible), my son finally asked me to put the book away. : But it didn't really help because I kept thinking about what I'd just read and bursting out laughing. My son finally decided I looked even crazier laughing for no reason and encouraged me to pick the book back up. :LOL

He is HILARIOUS! I saw him perform last fall and its even funnier when he reads his stories. In one of them he said one of my favorite quotes - "The problem with bi-sexuals is that they can leave you for twice as many people..."

Dress Your Family in Cordoroy is GREAT! If you love stories about "The Rooster" there are some hysterical ones in his new book....one about the Rooster's wedding and the Roosters New Baby...make sure you read them if you're a fan....even if you just stand there in the bookstore and read those 2 stories!

Okay, I'm reviving this thread back from the dead because I'm reading David Sedaris for the first time- Dress your Family in Curdoroy and Denim. I'm loving it, and I didn't know what to expect when I picked the book up.

I was just reading it while I was nursing my dd back to sleep, and got to the "Baby Einstein" essay- the one about Rooster's kid. I was laughing so hard that I had to put the book down so my dd could actually go back to sleep.

Looking forward to a library trip tomorrow to find more fo his books.

Love Him!

I heard Santa Dairies the first Christmas dh (who was then dbf) and I were together. We were a long way from home, kind-of sad and nostalgic and then turned on This American Life and just about died from laughter. This was about 10 years ago....(wow!)

I saw him awhile back and agree he is funnier live. The only problem was that he only spoke for a little over an hour.

I've only read "Naked" and "Barrell Fever". I'll have to check-out the others.

OMG---I love milking David Sedaris, too! Anyone remember the chapter where he's in France armed only with completely bizarre and unhelpful French vocabulary? I read it to my mom in my hallway---the memory of us crying from laughing so hard will always be with me! The village idiot role was perfect. I also LOVED the Rooster! His relationship w/their dad is so great. Ok, one more---the mean speech therapist and the syllabant S.....his way around making the S sound is some of the funniest stuff I've ever read.

When I checked out Dress Your Family...the librarian told me how she was at a diner alone (laughing loudly) and the waitress came over and asked her what was funny....the waitress ended up taking the book to the back and reading it to the kitchen crew. Strange how DS brings this out in us! Here---you HAVE to read this.......

I've not read Naked---so guess where I'm going tonight? Library!!!!
