this bothers me

maybe it shouldn't, but it does...

whenever I see cute t-shirts with cute sayings on them that I'd like to buy for my kids, they usually have pics of kids on them. and I rarely see a child of color option, for lack of a better way to word it.

what's the deal with that? i would love to have my kids wear certain things, but i'm unadvanced enough to want the pics on their shirts to be of kids that kinda resemble them. just my preference.

it's sad to see that even MDC doesn't offer that option for it's t-shirts (at least, I didn't see it anywhere). i thought we would have gotten more all-encompassing by now.

Hey Chaka - I never thought about it but it's a good point. I am sure that many WAHM's could do a custom for you: try Keri:

I completely understand what you mean and don't want to say anything that will get my wrist slapped but I carry several shades of tan and have a few on display

And I can attest to the fact that Keri's shirts look awesome with tan kiddos on them.

Chaka, if you don't mind me asking, why do you think it's unadvanced to want to see more diverse images on shirts? I'm curious because I think your thoughts are shared by many folks...and I'm not sure it's because these folks are unadvanced.

Just wondering, not trying to be snarky at all!

I just try to expect more of myself and I recognize that all of us are humans of worth, regardless of our skin tone. That's all. I want to be the sort of person for whom this sort of thing is not an issue, yet, I'm not. I understand why I'm not.

I'm just conflicted about it, mostly. Wish I weren't so colorstruck about these things, but refuse to believe that the issue doesn't matter in our societies.
