Pre-pregnancy weight after one week??

salaam

i just gave birth (VBAC!) about a week ago, and in that week, i've lost about 20 pounds. i don't know if i should be worried, or not though... i know it's not really normal. the thing is though, that i was about 30 pounds overweight at the beginning of this pregnancy, and i took much better care of myself while i was pregnant than i was before i conceived. my normal weight is about 135, and after my second baby i just never lost any weight so i was at 165. then with this pregnancy i got up to about 183-85 and now (a week after delivery) i'm 160.

is this something that i should be worried about?

*edited in* ok i just read that it's normal to lose 4-8 pounds, plus the weight of the baby... and i had a 9 lb 13 oz baby... so i guess it's not *that* weird.

I definitely wouldn't worry! For me it fell off with no effort, my sil too...she was back in a size 0 a week later.

Congratulations on your VBAC and new baby!!! I'd not worry about the weight loss, esp. if you're eating well and drinking to thirst. Sounds wonderful! Best wishes to you!!!

I don't know how "normal" I am, but for me :

at 1 weeks post-partum, I was 4 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight
at 2 weeks post-partum, I was 5 pounds UNDER my pre-pregnancy weight

Funny thing (to me at least) is that I am now 23 months post-partum, and 36 weeks pregnant, and I am now just 1 pound more than my pre-pregnancy weight from my first baby.

Do you think that you might be loosing a lot of fluid? Are you sweating & peeing a lot?

I gained 20 lbs w/ AJ and it was gone plus a few at 2 wks pp. He was born at the end of May though and I had at least a few lbs of water weight. Congrats on your VBAC, I'm so jealous! I guess I'm not jealous yet as mine isn't till Dec, but I'm definitely excited for mine! I'm 21 wks pg now and still 5 lbs under where I started.

Almost eight weeks after birth here, and I now weigh twenty pounds LESS than my pre-pregnancy weight, and the last time I weighed this smaller amount was in the eighth grade! I lost about twenty pounds in those first two weeks after our babe was born, despite eating lots and drinking lots, which brought me down to almost my first trimester weight (morning sickness made me lose about 5-10 pounds.

Like everyone else said, I wouldn't worry as long as you are eating well and drinking lots. Enjoy your new shape!

warmly,
claudia

Don't know about the pre-preg. weight issues but I just wanted to congratulate you on your VBAC!! I was wondering what happened since I know your hospital pulled the VBAC plug at the end of June. (I'm a fellow Jersey-ite so I'm conscientious of these things.)

I lost all but 5lbs within the first few days and was under my pre-pregnancy weight within two weeks. I was able to wear my pre-pregnancy jeans the night after giving birth. I kept losing weight, went to the dr, and turned out to have a thyroid problem. Not trying to scare you or anything, but just something to keep in mind if you keep losing. Post partum thyroiditis is very common. Good luch and congrats on your VBAC!

With #1, I gained 17 lbs and lost it all the 1st week pp.
With #2, I gained 50 lbs and it's been 9 weeks pp and I'm still 22 lbs over.
