Any "vintage" moms here?

Just wondering if the medical community is giving you a hard time simply because of your age. I've had 3 kids, no problems, no complications, but still, the backup OB is "requiring" certain tests simply because of my age.

Short of going with UC, I'm kind of stuck when it comes to providers. (There's my midwife, then a midwifery group, and they both use the same backup OB.)

I know this is a complaining post, but are you all being treated differently JUST based on your age?

I am a vintage 38 and will be 39 when I deliver.....I will have a diagnostic u/s for the baby and a blood test for me, if it all looks good, I will stop there with the testing.................I am not looked down on or treated poorly for being "vintage"......

Oh, i'm vintage all right, but I haven't been to see the midwife or doctor yet (still trying to sort things out with dh first, but that's another story ). I'm sure the doctor will give me grief about my age, but the midwifes are awesome. As long as you're healthy they treat you like anyone else.

Lise, I've had the same experience--my midwife is great about it, but her backup is a pita. My last preg. was at 38 and the ob gave me "the advanced maternal age talk" then, so I can only imagine the speech I'll get this time.

My old OB advised me I was "vintage" when I was pregnant at 34 and be 35 when the child was born. I now see a midwife and at age 38 (almost 39 when this baby is born) she has never inferred to me that i'm "vintage". guess that is why I give her my business and not my old OB.

I'm 40 and this is my first pregnancy ever. My due date is 2 weeks shy of my 41st birthday.

Not only have I had zero attitude about my being an "elderly primagrava" but when I bring up my age as an issue, they all wave it away and say it's not an issue (sure, people admit it was why it took a year for me to get pregnant and there are some different options for prenatal testing, but absolutely nothing negative on the pregnancy itself).

Of course I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have chosen good medical folks (midwives and a backup OB, and regular healthcare ppl). But even when I was calling regular OBs for backup, no one cared on whit about my age (but they all freaked about the home birth thing...sigh).

Oh and while I've been asked about testing, when I say I'm not getting an amino or a CV test, everyone says fine. I find it appalling that you're being "required" to get tests you don't want. It's your choice and there's nothing wrong with a disabled baby anyway. :
