Okay, this is dumb, but I don't know the answer....

If it says knit 4 rows in st stitch does this mean:
knit a row, purl a row, knit a row, purl a row

OR

does knit a row, purl a row = ONE row?

Good question.

It means...

knit one row
purl one row
knit one row
purl one row

Isn't knitting the best? (At least until one gets stumped by the directions). Have a great day!

Treelove- I am a complete novice at knitting, have only been doing it off and on for the last 2 years.....but from what I can tell about knitting and reading knitting books, you really can knit however you want too, your end product won't look EXACTLY like the pattern, but that's okay, it will still be functional. That is what I love about knitting. Who knows, you may end up with a really cool new pattern to teach others.

Lols! mamax3 I'm with you on that! I have to knit into the back of my knit stitches or my stocking stitch & ribs come out all twisted. I have no idea why since I'm *sure* I knit like the books reckon. No one has ever taught me. I remember getting very excited one day when I found a knitting book where they did the back of some fancy waistcoat in "twisted" rib !!

My best advice is knit how you want to. Just keep an eye on how wide & long it is getting so it comes out the right size.
