"Christian" show says ALL Muslims are equally evil!!

I was flipping channels this morning and came across a show on our local UPN channel. A woman was being interviewed and at first Ithought it was about abusive relationships and how teh yare overcome. Then I thought maybe about how Jesus saved her from the relationship, which is HALF true. Anyway, they focused on the fact that her ex abusive husban was Islamic and from the Middle East. She says he tricked her into converting to the Islamic faith and so on. But it got really awful. She stated tha tall people of Muslim faith are equally evil believing the ymust take over the world. they are ALL militant-she lived in the USA and knows they are planning to take over by marrying into Christians etc. She said he even tried to convince me we had the same G-d-Allah is not the same!

It went on and on about how all Muslims beat their women even though some people watching will sware it is not true and the religion has them praying so much so that they may not think for themselves. It was hideous and one sided-coming from a very hurt woman of course. She blamed it all on Muslims in general. I mean the tone was making me ill. She went on to refind Jesus and leave him-wonderful for her, but HELLO?!?!?!?!?

I was so saddened by the hate they were provoking and this was on reguilar free tv. I mean, their are losers who claim many faiths. Many of these people use their religion as an excuse to abuse and persecute-but why didn't this woman and the people on the show realize the ywere also spweing hate?

I do not watch these shows generally and am a spiritual person, albeit brought up Christian.

i'm but not surprised they interviewed this woman
unfortunately, having a bad experience, for some ppl, makes them hateful of an entire group

i'm sure Jesus (peace be upon him) would have nothing to do with such a person if he were here

oh ya, THAT attitude If one apple is roth, lets trow the entire basket!

What makes me really both sad and angry at the same time is that, to be aired, it should have been approved by at least one other person... so that hateful generalization is not only one person's opinion but a part of a greater agenda (do I read too much about conspiracy? : )

I'm constantly reminding people around me that they don't know every member of X group (sex orientation, country, religion, ...) so they can't say "X are this, X are that" but then they will say to me that I don't know all them either so I can't say that they are not

Well, I hope my children will embrass MY point of view - I certaintly work to make it happens!

These evangelical Christian shows have been spewing anti-Islam hate for YEARS. That is why it is almost so amazing to me when I hear all this stuff in the media about Mulsim "preachers" preaching hate. I mean, do these people ever watch the 700 club or that guy with the big hair? They have been telling hateful lies for a long time. All Muslim men beat their wives? I guess I'm so busy praying that I haven't noticed when my husband beats me. Take a look here for some good info. this has been going on a loooong time:

Well my MIL is certainly one of those people who agrees with that agenda.... I had to tell her to stop racist after she went on and on about these Indian boys at the community's pool being obnoxious, how all Muslims are evil, and want to destroy USA, ect, ect, all the negative hateful sterotypes... I was pretty shocked when at the end of the conversation she appologized to me though! But she says she's read the Koran from front to back (no she hasn't, not saying I have either, but I've read enough just here on MDC to KNOW that the Koran is not a book on 'how to destroy America', ect), and when I said "well if you just picked up a bible you'd think had some really scary parts too", and that *hey* people have done some truly henious things under the guise of Christianity she just kinda ignored those facts...

I know. My IL's like to send us emails about how evil Islam and it's adherents are, and my dh just laughs and says "I'm pretty sure I've read more of the Koran than he has." (DH is fluent in Arabic) Plus, he has the added bonus of having actually been to a Middle Eastern country and worked with the people there. It's too bad no one wants to hear that Muslims and Arabs are regular people, and that some are jerks and some are wonderful.

Once you dehumanize a people, it's much easier to kill them. If all Muslims are evil, hairy, women beating, terrorists, then who cares of some kids at Abu-Ghraib were repeatedly raped or little Iraqi kids died of starvation during sanctions, or Palestian women miscarry cause they can't get through checkpoints. Who cares about what happens to these people if they are less human than we are.

You know, I bet all those "indians" aer really sick of stupid Americans who think anyone who has brown skin and doesn't speak spanish must be Muslim. Many sikhs have been attacked, and beaten because some redneck @hole thought that because he had brown skin and a turban that he must be Muslim and therefore worthy of being beaten or killed.

I actually know a woman who said her husband tricked her into converting to Islam. As though one's repeating of syllables, without knowing their meaning or having any intention, could possibly equal a change from Christianity to Islam...anyway, they married and she left her home for his country, and it's a country with some economic problems...

So, on top of huge culture shock, and being far from home, and knowing no one but her husband (who was hugely under stress as well, looking for work and trying to facilitate a relationship between his wife and his family), and having left her very good job, etc.--or as a result-- their marriage began to crumble. And, rather than admit that it was a human failing, and these things happen, and admit that perhaps there was more they might have done to save their marriage, which may or may not have had a chance...

It's just a lot easier to blame it all on something a lot of people are afraid of anyway. It also, I think, was the only way her own family (who happened to be evangelical) would have her back.

There were no allegations of abuse, btw.

Aaahh, love, tolerance, and respect for humanity...

What is that all about anyway. No one can trick you into converting. That's just plain stupid. If someone told me "repeat these words" and I repeat them, I've done nothing more than repeat words.

When I was considering marrying an Iranian man, he causally mentioned to me one day that when we went to Iran, I might have to "sign a little piece of paper" saying I accepted Mohamed as the greatest and final prophet. I was like, ummm no, i'm not gonna do that. He kept saying, "it's just a little piece of paper, they won't let us get married without it," etc. He was really astonished that I wasn't willing to sign the paper.

Just an anecdote brought to my memory by this thread. No point. He was very nice and would never have beat me, although my family seemed convinced he was waiting to plant a bomb in my suitcase.

Lots of bigotry in the world.

Personally, as the descendent of apes and pigs it strikes me as particularly repulsive that it comes from a religious perspective, as the aim of religion is to bring people closer to The One Above as opposed to further from others of His Creation ...

I have never been taught such nasty things.

I think there are basic truths that are common in human religions (I could come up with the scripture but I'm lazy) The basic codes of conduct.

Christianity, Judiasm, and Islam are *related* religions. Muslims acknwledge this by calling Jews and Christians "People of the Book". We all believe in One G-d....from what I understand the *same* Creator.

If we could just be kind to one another we could *debate* the particulars within the context of mutual love.

But there are hateful preachers in all religions, I guess (I can't cite any Jewish hatemongers) I know there are the Pat Robertsons in Christianity and the Bin Ladens of Islam.

They do not represent our religions!!!!!

DB, there was one Jewish hatemonger that I know of. He was an extreme person with extreme views, and while he did a few good things early on in his career (in particular, his American organization, the JDL, was active in the '70s in bringing the plight of Soviet Jewry to the public eye) but then sank into some really frightening energy when he moved to Israel.

In a fascinating side note, this particular person was murdered in NYC in 1990, and this particular murder is cited by many as the first act of Al Qaeda on American soil. And in the investigation of this murder, information was turned up that ended up in boxes in the back of some prosecutor's closet and was not translated ... that turned out to be early-stage planning for various terrorist operations against NY. Which were, BTW, carried out. Against the World Trade Center.

It should be noted that the political party he founded in Israel *was outlawed by the Israeli government* for its racist rhetoric back in 1988, which was before Oslo was even contemplated (ie., it wasn't done as an "obligation" to work against incitement; it was done because it was the right thing to do. And yes, this parenthetical is a pat on the collective Israeli back ... sometimes, just sometimes, they do things right, come on, y'all can admit that much ... :LOL ... okay, maybe not).

The other hateful preachers in the world, well, honestly, they scare me a great deal, particularly because many of them are given official government sanction, and are even some of the most revered preachers from the holiest places in their particular religion. But beyond my reference earlier in the thread, will leave that be. Links I have, but links I will not post.

Amy, I know of whom you speak. I thought of him more a politician than religious leader.

As you said, a bit extreme and killed under mysterous circumstances. Hmmm..... But it is wrong to hate no matter what religion you practice.

This is so sad.

I agree with the pp who said you have to dehumanize people in order to kill them. uke

If they were TRUE Christians they would not judge other religions or people.
