Nursery Themes?

Just out of curiosity, how are you decorating your nurseries? If you have pics, please do share. I could use some more ideas, myself.

I'm trying very hard to do a fairy and butterfly theme in lavender and purple. It's incredibly hard to find fairy anything, though. We have the Paloma 6 pc. Crib Set from Kids Line, Inc. and I plan on adding fairies to our walls with wallpaper cut-outs and borders . I'm hoping it will look nice when we're all finished with it.

I have never had a nursery...all my kids slept in our room until about two or three. This time around, I have a sitting room off my bedroom, so I am using that for the baby stuff. I am using my crib as a changing station, by leaving the one side railing off. I am going to hang a mobile over the changing area, and bought a crib set just to dress up the "changing crib" I am doing Lambs and Ivy "Precious Cargo" and sticking with the primary colors...

We don't have a nursery, but I recently moved our bedroom downstairs (so I could be closer to the bathroom) so I redecorated to make it special (it had been the computer room.) It is now my favorite room in the house, it is really restful and peaceful. I am really proud of the paint job, which is my first attempt at sponging. And will probably be where I give birth. The big bed is where my daughter and I are sleeping right now, the smaller bed is where my 5-year-old sleeps, the wood door leads to the bathroom, and in the third picture the doorway leads to the dining room and that heap of blankets in the corner is actually a fold-out bed that my 7-year-old sleeps on.

With my DD I decorated her room in Classic Pooh. I had planned on doing it that way before I knew if she was a girl or a boy. I'd been collecting Classic Pooh stuff since I was in high school. DD has always had her 'own' room, even when she slept in our room in her bassinet until she was... almost 9 months. In her room I used a bunch of IVAR shelving that we already had from IKEA. I painted the shelf boards a Creamy Ivory and the end pieces a mix of Lavender and Soft Yellow. We had a futon in that room also, I painted that a soft Sage Green and matching Ivory. DH slept many an afternoon and/or evening on that futon with DD asleep on his chest. I have an antique Sourdough bin that I used as the changing table (it's what my mom used for my brother and I). It was painted a dark Hunter Green and I did a crackle finish using the Sage Green on top of it to matching with the futon. Her crib set (which she didn't really sleep in until she was 9+ months old) was a Beige Classic Pooh set. I used prints from several desk calenders that were Classic Pooh to decorate the walls.

I didn't really do a 'room' for DS until we moved him out of our room and he moved into to DD's old crib from the bassinet. He actually stayed in the same room and DH & I moved our bedroom to a different room (DH's old office, the third bedroom in the house). I found a cute Crib set on clearance from Pottery Barn. It's chambrays and patchwork plaids. The colors of his room are Dark almost Navy Blue, a Brick Red, Creamy Ivory and Chambrays and Denims. I went with a old-fashioned toys theme. Radio Flyer wagons, trains, airplanes and stuff like that. I used some more IVAR shelving we still had (:LOL W had a lot of that shelving :LOL) I painted the end pieces the Dark Blue and the shelves the Creamy Ivory. The futon is now in his room but I've never gotten around to re-painting it so it's still Sage Green. I was going to paint it the Brick Red which is currently just accent color on a toy chest and a couple of hooks in the shapes of Stars. i bought some 'nostalgia' themed stuff from Target that helps tie things together. Once Radish moves out of the bassinet he'll be going into DS's crib and DS will be moving into his own 'big' bed. We'll have both boys in the same room then.

I don't have any pictures of their rooms on the computer right now. Sorry.

I'm afraid to even attempt painting my walls. : I just know I'll make some awful mess and get frustrated with the whole thing.

Lambs and ivy sounds really cute and I'd definately be interested in knowing where you found a butterfly lamp. The pink/purple flower and butterfly theme for your girl's room sounds really nice. How does she like it?

We did a Noah's Ark nursery for Nicolas, in sort of muted antiquey-looking primary colors. Never touched the walls, though (we are renting our duplex), except to hang little shelves on which I put two of different Russ Beanie animals... Of course with twins, that theme is even more appropriate -- two by two!! Plus, there's no room for a real nursery this time around, so the crib will be Noah's Ark and it's in our room. Maybe I'll be able to hang the fabric wall art that I used before, but nothing else. Oh, maybe the rug too. When we move I'll do borders and everything. I think I'll always use Noah's Ark for my baby room. Just rotate the kids out of it when a new baby comes!

Savannah...where are you renting a duplex? We were renting over there too....but it was one of those cluster homes behind the new Home Depot (well, it was new then....)

We wont have a nursery, mainly because we dont have any more bedrooms. The baby will sleep in my bed for at least 2 years Im sure. I do wish I had a cradle for napping in though...

When I was pregnant with Paityn I wanted to decorate a room. We painted it pink and her bedding was a patchwork quilt with the border being sage green. We didnt have a theme, but the color scheme was sage green and light pink and it was really beautiful - even for someone who doesnt normally like pink. We hung the quilt on the wall, as well as the belly cast we made when I was pregnant with her. I also made one of those photo boards with fabric and ribbon. All her furniture was white. It was just really pretty. I will try to find a picture of it to link to.

I had so much fun with her room, it almost makes me wish that I had another bedroom for this baby just because I did such a good job with hers. I suck at decorating the rest of my house though!!!

I didn't get to decorate a nursery for Christopher until we moved from Denver to Charlotte when he was 6 weeks old. He didn't start sleeping in his room until he was 3 months old. We painted his room a creamy orange and decorated with the Blue Jean Teddy set. David will eventually share the room with Christopher so we have left the crib in the room but Christopher is sleeping in a toddler bed now. I bought a new toddler sheet set for Christopher that has similar colors to the Blue Jean Teddy set. He has a patchwork quilt and coordinating sheets underneath. I will try to take a picture. Also I have a rocking recliner in the room since I hated the Glider Rocker. I have use the recliner a couple times with Christopher.

Our nursery "theme" is, um, multicultural kids playing together happily?? We painted a mural based on St. Judes fabric from Hancock.

My mom is sewing us bedding/accessories based on the St. Judes fabric. No hurry, since we plan on having babe over in our room, hopefully.

We did do it ourselves. Hubby drew the mural with a pencil and then a wood marker and then we painted it with those little acrylic paints from Michaels. I thought it was a pretty fun project. (We didn't come up with the design, though! It was from the fabric...)

That mural looks so fun! Good for you. We did the same thing, decorated and furnished a nursery but the baby will sleep with us for a while - maybe a couple of years. I enjoy being in the nursery though and my rocker is there as well as the upstairs changing area and the cd player. I imagine the baby and I will spend a lot of time there just hanging out.

Omigosh, Steph, that room is just TOO Fun and precious!!! Makes you happy just looking at it! What wonderful crafty parents you are. Your dh must be quite proud of himself, too. And I've certainly never seen a "glider" like yours... it looks so big and comfy! Wow. You're a pretty mommy. Is that a cloth diapered bear you're holding?

msrog, That is indeed a cloth diapered bear! He has been a very willing model for cloth diapering, for the glider, well, for everything, really! Thanks for the compliments! We do love our nursery - it is very cheery!

CdnAloha, Thanks! Post a pic of your nursery! I, too, envision spending time in the nursery with our babe. It is such a fun room for us and we had such a good time doing it together.

We worked from a mural kit and made it fit in the small alcove in the room. The rest of the room is Hawaiian print and I painted the dresser/change area in all the colours of the mural, so it all ties together really nicely. (If I do say so myself. )
