Brisen,

Another website that is along the same lines as spinning babies is: http://www.homebirth.org.uk/ofp.htm
Its pretty informative also.

I, for one, will be working on optimal fetal positioning because I am one of those that DOES feel pain and I dont want back labor. I know my baby is posterior now at 34 weeks and I am trying to spend lots of time on my hands and knees and leaning forward.... hard to do though when all I want to do is recline.

Anyways, for anyone that reads (or doesnt) the VBAC boards here, you would be very surprised at how many of the women there had cesareans for such a simple thing as malposition. Of course in most cases there were other factors involved also.

Im not sure if this post sounds like I am saying that if you dont worry about position you will have a C (because Im not), but Im going to post it anyways.

35 weeks, 2 days

Hi everybody,

Ok, I know I am extremely rude to just drop off the face of the planet. Thanks to Jen for passing the greetings both ways. My first excuse is that I've been babysitting my friend's daughter 5 or 6 days a week and am exhausted all the time. I feel like my computer time should be spent reading the news. Plus, I have to admit, I hit saturation point with all things pregnancy and baby related about 2 months ago. I decided to put down the prego books and read Moby Dick just in case I wouldn't have a chance again in the next several years. (The little girl I babysit is an absolutely wonderful mothering coach, and she has made me aware that my exhaustion is only just beginning.) My second excuse is that I've had a series of visitors nearly all summer, which has added to the exhaustion. The third excuse is that I was in a car wreck (not hurt at all) and had a lot of insurance/claims/new car/paperwork business to do these last few weeks...so many excuses!

I just tried to catch up a little bit on your lives. I love to hear how you all are doing--especially the recent descriptions of rolling over in bed at night and sleeping in general. It sounds like everyone is doing well overall, and I wish you all a nice last few weeks.

I continue to escape some of the worst discomforts. I did get a lovely little yeasty though, and I've had my share of achy hips, cervix jabs, swollen feet, and BH contrax. But I really can't say that any of it has been that bad. I think I will actually miss being pregnant. I love all those instant mommy-bonding moments with other pregnant women who I see on the street. I've had so many people stop me and tell me something about their experience in labor, or how far along they think I am, or just point at me and say "hi other pregnant mommy." And, since I'm with this 15 month old everyday, I've entered that amazing world of meeting tons of mommies and kids everyday just by smiling and saying hi at the playground. I'm loving it.

Ok, must go to "work." My friend has 5 more weeks to finish her thesis...or fewer or more depending on when Jeri decides to make The appearance. Looking forward to the experience of labor, and wishing you all a great last few weeks,

Steph

Lazuli, yup me too. But I'm not terribly hungry, just want to be eating all the time. Luckily sometimes it's good stuff I want, but that usually takes some effort, lol. And we are unfortunately well-stocked with frozen dinners, frozen pasta, pizza pockets, etc. I've been craving sunchips lately, anyone like those? I discovered they have cheddar flavour, yum!

Jen, that sounds how I sit most of the time. I'm not terribly ladylike, especially with varicose veins to worry about. At the table, I sit tailor-style and lean forward with my elbows on the table. (And that's when I'm not pg, too.) So much for manners.... Oh, and for dinner, I would go for a big Greek salad, and maybe something like chicken fingers or wings.

Wow, sistermama, slinging and cooking and 8 months pg. I haven't had my 2.5 yo in a sling since before I was pg, I think. He's preferred being down most of the time since he could walk, though. Snuggles on the couch are more his thing, thank goodness.

chrissy, that itchy stuff sounds like no fun. Hopefully you can nip the infection in the bud.

blipla, I think I'm getting out baby stuff today. I have a whole pile of clothes that they boys don't fit into right now that I want to get put away, so I'm just going to pull everything out and reorganize it. First I have to go box hunting, though.

Anna, I'm working on protein too. I really felt through this pg that I needed to do something like the Brewer diet, when I have to snack a lot I tend to eat a lot of bread stuff. I was doing well, but then when I went to visit family, I started eating so much junk! Not that they were cooking junk, but there was a lot of snack food around and comfort food. My feet and hands swelled for the first time once I was there, and I'm thinking maybe that had something to do with it. I'm a little concerned about pre eclampsia, and I was hoping to get back into my somewhat better protein habits once we came home, but I've been lazy about it. I'm trying to concentrate on filling up on protein and veggies and fruit.

It's raining here today. I think I'll pull out our rain jackets and we'll go for a walk sometime. Then I think we'll start working our way through all the books I brought back from thrift store shopping. I haven't even pulled out the legos yet, they boys haven't played with them for a while so that should amuse them if they get antsy while we read.

Okay more experienced mamas - in subsequent pregnancies, when the baby drops does it drop a LOT more than the first baby? Sorry for the TMI coming up, but I basically feel like I've got insides getting pushed out, know what I mean? And if I prod around the sides of my cervix, I am definitely hitting some hard baby head. Do you think this is normal for 35 weeks with a 2nd baby? I feel like I'm waddling around a head, which, I guess I am!!!
Sarah, I don't know anything about dropping. I never did drop until I was in labor (induced) with Noah. This time I'm having lots of pressure down low but I don't think I've dropped yet.
How interesting about Jack! How did you discover that he had that? And how are things going with the insurance situation?

Steph, It's so good to hear from you!!! Please do not feel rude that you have a busy real life. I'd love to hear updates from you as often, or not, as you can.

Brisen, A walk in the rain sounds fun!

Blipla, Poor ankle. Good luck getting lots done now that your girls are back in school, but don't over do it.

Sarah, yeah, the baby could drop a lot more, since there'd be more room in your pelvis this time around.

however, when mine dropped at about 33 weeks, I went down on all fours and stuck my but up in the air to get him outta there! To me, it felt too early for me to want all that pressure down there.

I feel like I've gotten so much accomplished this morning. My mother in law called last night asking if I wanted to have lunch and go to a quilting store today and like a madwoman I said sure. (I keep telling myself, free fabric and food and I don't have to drive.) So I got up and cleaned everything up really good, though I'm sure it's not up to her standards of clean, too bad! Yeah, I'd love to mop the kitchen floor, but given how much pain I end up in afterwards, I think I'll pass. I was a bit annoyed when i went back to the bedroom to put some shirts away and saw big clumps of black cat hair all over the new carpet. I swept it earlier, not doing it again. Still hungry today, which is so strange. Maybe Vaysh is growing? Five minutes after i eat something I'm starving again and it makes no difference what I eat. My husband gets home in the morning, hurray!

I'm with you Lazuli! I've gotten a lot accomplished this morning. My morning started off with Alex waking up with a nightmare at 3:30 this morning. After he went back to sleep, baby Jackson decided it was time to wake up and play, giving himself a bad case of the hiccups, which kept me awake. So I got up and ate some breakfast at 4 a.m. Eventually, Jackson tired out and so did I. I fell back asleep on the couch around 6 and dh woke me up at 8. I worked for an hour, took a shower, then loaded the dishwasher, did two loads of baby laundry, and unpacked three boxes. Then I got back to work and have been making great progress. I hope I can keep this up today! I still have plenty to do!

I've noticed a big increase in my appetite as well. I no sooner finish eating something and I'm back in the kitchen for something else. The baby must be packing on the weight now, getting ready to take on the world.

As for the baby dropping, I don't remember ever feeling any different when I was pregnant with Alex even after the midwife told me that he had dropped. This kiddo has been low throughout the entire pregnancy, though I have been feeling slightly more pressure in my tailbone region lately, so maybe he went even lower this week.

TGIF! Hope everyone is having a good Friday!

Hi to all the ladies that are re-joining us.

I didn't notice a big difference in baby dropping between Tori and Jack only because I carried them both SOOO differently.

Tori was HIGH HIGH up under my ribs until about the last week & a half. Then she moved down about "halfway" down. It was funny to hear people say, WOW you are carrying so high still... HA, she's low now!! :LOL She didn't fully drop until a day or so before I went into labor.

Jack was a LOW rider the ENTIRE pregnancy. He was always way down in my pelvis. My bladder was his pillow, trampoline, dance floor... whatever the entire pregnancy. : So I didn't really notice him "dropping" so much until the last couple of weeks when his head was fully engaged.

MUNCHIE CENTRAL here! I'm constantly snacking. Luckily we've had a lot of fruit and nuts around... but the POTATO CHIPS are constantly calling me. :LOL I've gained more weight because of it though. I'm not worried and neither is my OB but is does make a difference on how easily I'm getting around... or not rather. :LOL

David leaves for 2 weeks in a couple of hours. He's currently cleaning out his car (why do they look like they live in them??) and packing up his military gear. Should be an interesting 2 weeks... and very exhausting since I won't be able to have my morning naps. (sniff sniff) But we talked about using this time to get the kids back on a strong schedule with bedtimes. They both really sleep better with a 'schedule'. David is always the one to throw the bedtimes out of whack. Hopefully we'll be able to keep them on track for when Radish gets here. That's going make it a lot easier.

I've been making a few lists of some

of the projects I hope to get done while David is gone. I can use the time when he wanted attention after the kids are in bed.

Allergies are kicking our butts here. Both Tori and Jack have the clear running noses and the sneezes. I've been waking up with some sinus pressure too. The weather has been GORGEOUS yesterday and today. Like 10+ degrees COOLER and the humidity is down like 30%, this is SOOO not Texas summer weather!! So we've been outside in the grass (which is getting the allergies going ). I hope we get to spend the afternoon before David leaves just lazying around in the backyard.

I've slept horribly for the last two nights, Radish has been "uncomfortable" apparently and is constantly moving around trying to find a comfortable position. And if it's comfortable for ME... he hates it. : No need for kick counts with this boy. :LOL

Great belly pics everybody. We took a bunch again the other night but they are STILL on David's laptop (so are the ones from 2 weeks ago!). I need to get him to transfer them before he leaves today. I just measured my belly for giggles... 47" around. :LOL :LOL Yep, I'm a petite belly... NOT! :LOL

Caroline I'm sorry to hear about your + GSB test. Well if you have fast labors, that's a good thing. The risk of tranferring is when there is a long period between the waters breaking and birth. Hope you are able to find a solution you are comfortable with.

Okay I need to go make lunch, I'll be back later tonight.

grump!

The marine is driving me crazy today!!!!! He's been on the phone yelling at people today... he does this every so often. When vendors screw up, copiers are being delivered, packages are not being picked up quickly enough... he goes on a rampage where he calls people and chews them out. It's like he gets it all out of his system in one day by calling everyone he has a beef with! I'm sick of hearing it.

AND... he was painting again today which gives me a headache, on top of being headachey from not drinking soda pop.

I can hardly wait to go home! I get to leave in a half an hour, hooray! I'm really looking forward to this weekend. i will be home instead of traveling, i have people coming to help me clean and feather my nest, which is AWESOME! i think i might make some homemade chicken noodle soup tonight. It sounds yummy!

I hope everyone has lovely weekend. Sleep well and grow those babies!

34 weeks, 6 days

I got way behind and couldn't catch up so I'm just going to jump right in!

I have been terribly tired! I'm not sure I can muddle through until Sept. 18! I just come home utterly exhausted. I'm up every two hours through the night. My hips are killing me. End of complaints!

I had wonderful news today -- my coworkers are giving us a baby shower! We both work at the same place, so I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of attendees. I'm thinking I might use this opportunity to have people purchase cloth diapers. I was ambivilent about it, but now I'm almost convinced. Even if I only use them for three months, it's got to save money. And maybe by the end of the three I'll want to continue.

So -- I think some have mentioned there's an online place to order diapers. Can you register? Will take any advice on where and how to order diapers for gift-givers. Thanks, you guys.

That "itchy butt got you down?" banner is *so* much more applicable right now!!! You can really tell how much your partner loves you when they will make a special trip to the drug store to buy you Anusol.

I really would like to get out of the awake at 4 - back to sleep at 7 - sleep til 11 habit. REALLY would. I wake up feeling like I lost half of the day. Plus I'm probably sleeping a bit too much as I've been having weird dreams in those late morning hours and I wake up groggy and stupid feeling.

Today I've got two ferocious tigers stalking the house, there have been cats outside making nasty cat growls at each other, and Eddie gets really defensive of the house and stalks around growling. (Our cats are strictly indoor cats. With those nasty cats outside, I think it was a very, very good decision!) It also means I can't have any of the downstairs windows open, because then they will both go sit in them and get all worked up if there is a cat outside. Last time that happened Eddie jumped at the back of my legs with all 16 claws extended and I ended up with some lovely holes in the backs of my upper thighs, ow!

Shannon, mmm, sunchips! I love sunchips. Enjoy your puddle-jumping, that's the best! We have a gorgeous day right now, clear blue skies and no humidity, I should be working on laundry because it would dry within 20 minutes hung out on the line today.

See, I told you all that Steph was alive!

Anna, Jerome might inquire if school will subsidize part of the cost of internet at home. I know the university where Jo works pays $40 of our DSL costs per month to enable her to work from home. Sorry the marine is driving you crazy and I hope the headache goes away soon...

I just got a call from a woman very involved with the German teaching scene in the Twin Cities who is trying to recruit me to work at the Twin Cities German Immersion School, opening fall 2005. It's a hard decision (which I know I don't need to make right now!) - I love teaching Waldorf but the possibility to teach immersion and earn 3x what I earn now - and not having to drive so far - is a sweet consideration. Hm. Things to consider.

OK, off to tackle laundry. And dishes. And the house. Ah, the things that don't get done...

Ellen, i'm very sorry to report that ordering diapers online is fairly complicated... there's so many kinds and so many sites to order from. The really super duper cool diapers made at home by mothers are harder to get your hands on. They sell fast!
The basic stuff, prefolds and plain white covers (mass produced) can be found online. I enjoyed shopping at http://www.jacksmagicbeanstalk.com/ they do have a registry available at their site, I didn't end up using it.

I made a registry at http://www.findgift.com/ You can put any web site in, and can put in text messages as well. Feel free to peek at mine if it helps you get ideas.
Look up the registry for Anna Rundall in Madison, Wisconsin. Good luck!

Has anyone ever ordered from Granola Threads before? I bought a shirt for Paityn that says "Tandem Nursing Is Twice As Nice" on it, recieved it today and it is SO cute! I also ordered a onesie for the new baby that says "Born At Home Surrounded With Love" (or something like that). It is so tiny! You just dont remember how small a newborn really is... I cant wait to see my baby in it.
Ellen - I've ordered a lot of diapering stuff online from Baby Belle Bottoms and Earth Baby and have been very pleased with both.

I'm back from my little outing and about to go take a nap. I had the best tuna melt for lunch. I've been avoiding fish and tuna, but it sounded so good...and boy was it! I'm starting to feel hungry again, I should have gotten a piece of pie to go.... *laughs* I bought a kit to make a quilt to hang on the wall in the bedroom and 5 half yards of fabric. Quilting shops are dangerous! Yeah, I definitely need a nap now....then I can go back to my sewing.

Hello Ladies!!
37 weeks today!!

Welcome back Shannon and Steph! I don't keep up as well as I should either.

Anna- I hope you will be able to have internet access at home!! You can't leave us all wondering how you are doing!!

Sarah- I never really noticed my babies dropping until this pg. This baby has been engaged for 8 weeks now, she just keeps getting lower too! at our last u/s on 2 Aug she was so engaged they couldn't see her bottom. The pressure is incredible. I feel like I could push her out every time I use the bathroom!!

MamaAcorn- Sounds like a busy productive day!! Put your feet up tonight for sure!!

Samantha- That is so tough that your dh will be gone for 2 weeks. When my dh was gone for 2-3 weeks at a time on business routines were essential! I needed the down time after the kids (2 at the time and pg) were asleep and before I had to crash. They were asleep by 7:30 every night. Bedtime is a little later now that they are older, 8:30, but we are still consistent with it.

Ellen- Prefolds are the cheapest but fitteds are easiest! I like www.sugarplumbabies.com she offers a newborn package 6/$42. They are quick dry and fit so well! Check out the diapers thread here on the sept mamas board as well.

Jen- Your body must be getting ready for the lack of night time sleep in store for you! Best wishes for more rest and "itchy butt" to go away!! That banner is one of my favorites too!

Lynsey- those shirts sound so cute! I have a pink and a blue t-shirt my oldest sister made for me that say "I'm a home born baby". It is the first shirt I put on my babies after they are born.

Lazuli- I hope you are having a wonderful nap so you can get up and sew, sew, sew!!

I am finally feeling at peace with out decision to deliver breech at home. The midwife we thought we were going to have to travel 5 hours to will be down here until Sept 8 as they just bought a condo here! I am so excited! She is so experienced! I took a class from her 10 years ago when I was going to become a midwife (got married and have been keeping the midwives busy since). She just caught a frank breech this last May as well so her skills are fresh. I finally completely set up my birth space. I think I have been waiting until I felt completely at peace with a decision. We will be using the guest bed/bath downstairs. Our house used to be a duplex so we have a 2bed/1bath/kitchen etc down and 3 bed/1 bath/kitchen etc up. I have the bed double made in case we end up using that. I am making the cushion for the birth stool hubby made for me (if anyone else wants one it only cost $28 for the materials an 1 hour to put together). I have the birth kit laid out and covered with a sheet. I hung the gorgeous floral wreath that I wore at my surprise mother blessing on the wall. It dried so beautifully! I have the cards I received from that as well as the cards from the bead exchange laid out on the dresser so they can be read to me while in labor if I want. I am finally in the homebirth "zone" again. Dh commented last night that he is very happy at the change in me since the phone call I received day before yesterday. I am getting anxious for birth now!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Sleep well and enjoy your pregnancy craving as soon we won't have pg as an excuse any more.

There are lots of places to order diapers and even register. My favorite by far is Cloth Diapers 'n More. While no one has actually purchased from it, you can see our registry there. She's got great packages, a widening selection, and excellent service. I'll be ordering most of my dipes from her very soon!

The other place I think of off-hand is DiaperWare. They have more from WAHMs, but I've never liked their set-up as much. You can get the basics from either place, I'm sure.

HTH! Hope your shower is great!

Heather (who can't possibly keep up with this chatty thread! )
