29 weeks today! :)
Jenny, wanted to add a little more to the mastitis info as a veteran of 4 or so infections.
The first time I had one, I went on antibiotics. the second and 4th times, I was able to take care of ti myself. What you do is, at the first sign on symptoms, start taking echinacea and garlic, in addition to the nursing and warm compresses. Also, before and during nursing with the infection, massage in a downward motion (towards the nipple) in the area of the infection. And make sure the position you use to nurse your baby has the baby's chin towards the infected area as well, this helps drain that specific area most efficiently. If your fever doesn't spike too much, all of these things can help you avoid antibiotics.
Also, be careful when you buy bras (actually what are you wearing now?). Avoid underwire nursing bras, and be SURE the bras you choose are not the slightest bit snug. If you buy a cotton bra, either make sure you you don't dry it or make sure you buy it with a little shrinking room. All lessons learned! I have one style bra that works for me and it is the only one I will buy.
Glad to hear I am not the only one moving on up a size in my maternity pants LOL!! One time when I went into Motherhood, the clerk said to me, "are you wearing a bra to bed?" and I said "no" (of course not, who the heck wants to do that?!) and she said "oh you should otherwise they'll sag" LOLOL I was like um "I've nursed for 2 years, I don't think a bra to sleep in will affect much"
Come ON people!!!
I'm doing fine, no more contractions (FYI: any contractions, even if they feel like b-h, that occur more than 4-5 times an hour are actually preterm labor...I had them every 2 minutes). Taking Cranactin, should have lab results tomorrow, though I imagine by the time I get the results the infection will be about gone anyhow.
Krnflwr, thanks for the UTI info!!
Both of my pregnancies, the midwives have always checked for leukocytes (which indicate infection) at each and every visit....it's part of the number of things on the dipstick they stick in your urine each visit. The really annoying thing is I pretty much do everything on the list. I guess I just have to take cranberry twice a day for the rest of this pg!!
I really think increases in discharge as time goes on is normal. Sometimes my undies feel wet, it's so annoying. And since all smells annoy me, the smell of myself seems gross too...but I don't think anyone else can actually notice.
