Sew Your Own Diapering Mommas

Hi Ladies,

I am going to start sewing some of my own diapers and diaper covers. Mostly fitteds, soakers (possibly hemp) and covers and I would like to try the great cpf to fitted with the fold over elastic I saw on this forum. My dilemma is that the Joannes and Walmart here do not carry the essential items I need. I live in a small town in Vermont and I guess the fold over elastic or stretch binding isn't a high seller around here. So my next mission is to find a store online. I have been successful at finding some that carry everything I need but can you all tell me which to stay away from if there are any. I don't want another Baby Unders Wraps situation. That was a nightmare! Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Just keep in mind I don't have a serger.

I would also like to hear thread, elastic, PUL weight, fabric and needle favorites. I am a novice! But OH So Excited to begin!

Is great for diapering info.! They have LOTS of traffic though, I would sign up on digest, otherwise you will get between 20 & 100 messages per day!

And if it makes you feel better -- I've never seen FOE in a store either.

www.diapershop.com and www.sewshoppe.com are both great stores with great reputations. Also, you can get pul from http://www.janellespuls.com/

I also like www.diapershop.com and www.diaperfabric.com. They have great diaper cuts at www.suedecloth.net also and she ships SUPER fast!!
Right now at yahoo group CutieBunzCo-ops she is having a bunch of fabric co~ops, the PUL ends on the 15th and she has all the latest colors (even the BRAND new neon ones) in both 1 and 2 mil.
The stores around me also do not have a good selection at all either, I buy most everything on~line.

Thank you everyone! And I will make sure I don't get carried away and go overboard. I am trying to use my cpfs to make fitteds and a couple of covers. I might sew a couple of fitteds for the fun of it.

I have to second this suggestion. I've only had great experieces there. She's quick to answer questions, has a great selection of stuff and always ties up my orders in a big, honkin' length of FOE

Oooh, have to second that warneral! It is SOOO addictive. I was lucky to get my Mum's cast off sewing machine and serger, but my first $200 worth of fabrics pretty much went on me learning the techniques and produced nothing I kept. It was worth it though because I love making diapers and covers so much, I'm not doing it to sell. Just needed a little practice to warm up again after having done no sewing for about 10 years. The sad thing is though, my dining room table is full of gorgeous items that I need to list on ebay, and Eliza's making do with worn out old stuff. I've made nothing for my own daughter, LOL.

d'oh, that would be "now" doing it to sell.

Sounds like warneral can be addictive! I am still scraping together some pennies to purchase some supplies. I won't be able to make more that 4 or 5 probably. Money is tight around here!
