I am looking into buying a pump. I think I want the Medela Pump In Style Advance but as I price check I see it is cheaper and says brand new in original packing on ebay. It is so much cheaper there than anywhere else should I bite the bullett and buy it from Geofrey's or do the ebay thing?

I can only offer my own experience with pumps and Ebay. I bought a Medela pump (one step down from the PIS) about 3 years ago, and opted to get a "new in ther package" pump from aseller on Ebay. It appeared to be what she said it was (new in the packaging, etc.), but it only work for about 2 months before it started dying. I was using it 1-2 times per day, 3 days per week, so within the user limitations on the pump.

I had it cleaned out to make sure there wasn't dirt or something in it and it worked again for a couple of weeks and then just stopped being efficent enough and I gave up using it. I paid a couple hundred dollars for it, so IMO it should have worked for at least a year. It was out of its warrenty phase for return/refund, so I was out of luck financially.

So, I don't think I will be buying a pump on-line again. There are a few stores and WAHM locally that sell Medela products, so if I purchase another pump, I will likely buy it locally, even if the cost is higher.

FYI, the only difference between the PIS Advanced and the Original is a "letdown" feature on the Advanced that you can mimic yourself on the Original.

On the Advanced, when you first turn it on it starts out with low suction and high speed. This is supposed to simulate a baby just beginning to nurse. After two minutes the pump goes to a lower speed and a higher suction. This is supposed to be like a baby taking deep sucks to get the flowing milk. You can adjust the speed and suction yourself on the PIS Original to get the same effect and save yourself about $100.

I have the Original and I actually like the control of when to adjust the speed, I wouldn't even want to give it up to an automatic process (sometimes I let down quick than other times.)
