The Picture People won't even take pictures that show baby girls' bare chests! (They WILL take pictures that show baby boys' bare chests.) There was a thread here a while ago about it.

Target isn't the only place to buy Boppy pillows.

You know, I personally think it's stupid that they won't do nursing pictures, but I can kind of understand it. They have to concern themselves with whatever public indecency and pornography laws exist in each state, which are open to very wide interpretation. (Think of the parents who have had their children taken away due to innocent pictures.) They also have to be concerned with potential sexual harrassment suits. An employee who was uncomfortable photographing a woman with bare breasts could claim he/she was forced to take nude photographs.

It's probably just easier for them to make a blanket policy.

Try Burlington Coat Factory's Baby Depot -- I've seen Boppy's there plenty of times. They have the whole online registry thing, too -- you could buy them online & have them shipped to the new mama's door!

And the mama who posted her pics -- absolutely beautiful!! I'm so jealous -- those are exactly the sort of pics I want to have done...

Oh, but if you're wearing a really low cut top, no problem right? Snap away! How about if you're holding a beer at the same time?

When is our culture going to get over their booby obsession? Maybe breasts should be renamed "infant auto feeders" or "organic child feeders" so they seem less sexy. (not that breasts can't be sexy but many people seem to think they should only be used for sex. sigh)

FYI I have seen Boppy's for sale at Babies r us too, they might also sell them at Toy's r us.

LOL... you guys crack me up. I'm in a rather um, well... it's not the city. I would have to go over an hour away in any direction to get to a Burlington Coat Factory, Toys R Us, etc etc.

As it is, Target is 30 minutes away... in the next parking lot from my hfs/co-op.

For that though, Target is my only option and it's still a 30 minute drive.

I'll be the paranoid/wet blanket.

I don't think I would ever have butt pics or nursing pics taken at a chain studio. When you have pics taken at a "chain" store (or by Lifetouches or like company), you the consumer do not own the rights/copyright to the pictures taken...the store/chain does. I don't think I would want such a potentially intimate image to be "owned" by someone else, to theoretically do with as they please. My experience has been that the consumer does not even have the right to duplicate the picture on their own...legally, it has to be re-ordered (at a very inflated rate) from the company that took the picture, and the prints often says "do not duplicate" on the back. And the consumer, as far as I know never has the rights to ownership of the negatives.

That would be my concern and worth considering, even if the store was willing to take the pictures.
IMHO, a person is better off finding a private photographer, whether they are a professional or a student or a friend (or whoever). But someone who will allow you to have total control of the image (prints and negatives).

There is no state in which breastfeeding (in public/in a photograph/whatever) constitutes public indecency or pornography.

He/she would be lying. Breastfeeding is not nudity. There is nothing sexual about it.
