Breastfeeing after 6 months away

Just wanted to post for some ideas, support etc. Long story as to why I stopped breastfeeding after only 5 weeks. But found out today form my local NFL mommy group that I can indeed relactate. I had tears in my eyes. Went to holistic store that I frequent. Bought some brewer's yeast (500mg) 12 tabs per day, mother's milk tea and Rainbow Light: Complete Prenatal System. Starting to pump tonight and see what happens. Looking into lactation supplementer if Georgi does not latch on. He is 7 1/2 months so it may be difficult. If all else fails, I will find La Leche consultant. Wonder if I would have to pay alot of $$ for a consultant or do health insurnaces cover? Have to check. Believing in a miracle! They happen everyday!

I have successfully relactated after having to wean ds at 3 months due to health complications (on his part ) . I took Domperidone, Brewer's Yeast, Fenugreek, Blessed Thistle, Mother's Milk Tea, & pumped 4-8 times a day. DS now gets between 1-4 oz. of EBM/day depending on how often I pump (I also have a 3.5 y.o.). We were not successful in getting DS to relatch, but at least he is getting EBM. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me. Good luck mama, you can do it!

Oops, forgot to add that I started the relactating process when ds was 8 months old, and he is now 10 months old.

I would definitely call La Leche League - they're volunteers. For a paid lactation consultant look for someone with the credentials IBCLC after her name. You can find one in your area by searching here: http://www.iblce.org/US%20registry.htm

Here are some great links on relactating and increasing supply:

I would seriously consider ordering domperidone from www.globaldrug.tv - and instead of using mother's milk tea, which is pretty dilute, either take herbs in capsules (3-4 capsules 3 times a day) of fenugreek and blessed thistle. Or you could get a tincture from www.motherlove.com such as the More Milk Plus. Brewer's yeast by itself is not going to do a whole lot - it has good B vitamins but it is not really a galactogogue (milk-promoter).

Relactation is hard work. I encourage you to give it your all, but to remember that you nursed your baby for five weeks which is great, and don't beat yourself up if it turns out to be really hard to get him back to the breast at this point.
