abbreviation ? - knitting

I found a hat pattern that I like for ds, but in the pattern there are 2 abbreviations that i've never seen before - MC and CC, as in
Row 1: *k3 MC, k1 CC, k4 MC, repeat from * around.

i have no idea what that means!! help! the only thing i can think of is main color and contrasting color ...
