Do your pets know you're pregnant?

We have a menagerie here, but one of our cats seems to always know when I'm pregnant.

Usually, she's aloof. She meows at me to go out, come back in, and be fed. Otherwise, I never see her. When I'm pregnant though, she completely changes. I can't get her off of me. She sleeps on my feet. When I sit, she's either on my lap or under my elbow. When she goes outside, she brings me "presents" and leaves them on the doorstep.

I think she knew about this pregnancy before I did.

Just wondering if anyone else's pets act like they know what's going on?

My dogs would trot by me as usual and then whip around like something was new with me............thats how I knew to test the first time. This pg....they dont seem to think much of it.....no whipping around this time. Maybe they were just shocked that I got pg after being married 11 years and now that I have done it once, the newness wore off.............LOL!

Animals tend to love being with me when I am pg.......................

My cat is a nut job too.. lol... He started sleeping with me just like he did last time I was preggo- but I didnt know either time I was preggo. They know, somehow that stuff is going on- even before we do!

i can't tell yet. we have a wolf and she kind of lives in her own world/is dead to the world alot compared to a dog-dog. i think i may be able to tell when she found/finds out in hindsight. she has been really extra sweet to me and gentle, but my relationship with her is ever deepening just like with dh, so it's not like our increasing bond is new or different. our babe is 'checked out' most of the time though too. but it would be out of character for her to act like anything was different, regardless of what it was.

we'r really looking forward to seeing her with the babe, though b/c she's very caring, and will be a good 2nd mama. it helps that she was the runt of the litter, i think. she's mellower than most wolves we hear of people 'owning'. i just wonder if there will be competition for eating the placenta! :LOL

Oh yes, our 5 yr old Mini-Dachshund is extra affectionate and protective of me when I'm pg. Interestingly, he'd only done it with the 'keepers'. We've lost 4 babies and he didn't do it during their short pgs. He's normally very much DH's dog but when I'm pg he's glued to me. It's pretty funny cause dh gets the cold shoulder!

It's interesting hearing these stories. It makes perfect sense to me that that animals would instinctively know something is different, but I've never heard anyone talk about it before.

I've never noticed my cat behaving any differently during my pregnancies, but I did have a really cool experience with a beluga whale during my last pregnancy.

I was at the aquarium with my 6th grade class (former teacher here) and one of the belugas was noticably prego. She popped her head out of the water in front of where I was standing and talked to me the whole time I stood there. I had a conversation with this whale for about 10 minutes and the whole time my baby kicked and squirmed. I was about 7 months along at the time. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life!

I have 5 German Sheps & 5 cats & they all acted so sweet when I was PG & they even acted strange the day b/f I had an Emergency C !!
I knew something was up !

My one cat, Frodo, is CONSTANTLY on my chest when I sleep or anytime I lay down when I'm pregnant.

My English Setter definitely knows I'm pregnant!! She has known since I was about 4 or 5 weeks. Mostly in the morning she used to be a real spaz, and jump on me in bed, on my head and stomach to wake me up.


But almost as soon as I found out I was expecting, she became much more gentle with me in every way. She no longer jumps on me but instead nudges me gently with her head and muzzle. She is also more affectionate and wants to lay down by me and stay by my side more often. It is amazing!!

One of the things I wondered about this was if the hormonal changes in my body caused my scent to be different, and that is how she picked up on it so quickly. Who knows? I'm just enjoying her being less spazzy! :LOL
