where do I begin?

Seriously thinking about homeschooling. Taught public ed. for 7 years and it is last on my list. But since I love to research, where do you veterans recommend I begin? My oldest baby is now 3 yrs. old (how did that happen?). I'd also prefer using a Christian based curriculum once I formally get started - in a couple of years, I know. Thanks!

I subscribed to Home Education magazine before I began. There are many books that people will recommend as well, but I enjoyed and got the most out of the magazine - I think because it led me to consider so many different points and led me to even more reading.

It is amazing how many of us with education backgrounds have opted out of that scenerio for our own children - What does that tell you?

First off RELAX. De-school yourself and what you think school should be.

I would read books from all types of homeschooling styles, Classical (Well Trained Mind), Unschooling, et.

Review cirriculum catalogs. Remember to be flexible.

I agree about trying to deschool your own mind. That can be more difficult than it sounds, or at least it is a journey. also see if there is a group in your area for homeschooling preschoolers. Sometimes you can learn a LOT from veteran homeschoolers in your own area. I have found a wealth of info spanning from things I think are great, to things I know I am not interested in. Plus you can really discuss your thoughts and that can help you along with determining just what your homeschooling interests are. :-)
