I just finished this AWESOME book about Harry Harlow- (he did those monsterous monkey experiments with baby monkeys and the wire mothers) VERY interesting stuff for any young mom - esp. a professional birthscene mom- to give a clear view of what was going in in our recent history that makes up the foundation of where we are right now in our culture.

Harlow got flack for having the audacity to imply that mothers, and love were essential to infant well being!... that it wasn't just milk.

In the typical fashion, it's a dry history book, it's only an interesting read if this subject interests you. I found it amazing.

This book is also of interest to Animal Rights folks- it was written by the woman who wrote "The Monkey Wars"

then- to follow up that book- today I just purchased a book called "Don't Kill Your Baby." I have not gotten past chapter 2 yet- but it's a perfect followup to the Harlow book. Talks all about breast vs bottle in history- what was going on- culturally, scientificly, technology... wild stuff!
