I got some sweaters to recycle and saw that one said 97% wool do y'all think this would work? the other part is 1%lycra 2% *other* so I am assuming it's poly or omething acrylic..

I'm fairly new around these parts, but I am guessing that you are talking about making diaper covers??
If so... I have made some for my daughter with recycled sweaters that were not 100% wool and they seem to work just fine. I made them with 2 layers and I haven't had any leaks or wicking. And the sweaters that I have used had as little as 70% wool mixed with some angora and nylon and the like.
If you weren't talking about diaper covers... then I have no idea!!

Srry yes I am planning to make a pair of longies from the sleeves and a wrap from the body using fold over elastic..
Sothe 97% wool won't wick then? GREAT!

It should work fine. But the lycra content can make it retain odor, so you'd need to wash it more often.
