Has anyone done this?

I have a twin-size down comforter and would like a cover for it, but they're so expensive. So I was wondering whether I could get a king-size flat sheet and fold/sew it into a cover. I know nothing about sewing, but I got a sewing machine for my birthday and would love an easy project to learn with.

I've done that. My down comforter is regular/queen size so I had to use larger sheets. It is pretty easy. Just make sure the king size sheet is twice as wide as a twin sheet or at least as wide as your comforter plus a couple inches for seam allowance. Then you just have to leave an opening so you can wash the cover and not the comforter.

my mom does this all the time, but I'm pretty sure she uses 2 twin sheets.

ya'll will laugh at me, but when Dh and I had our first place adn I was less-than-crafty, I bought a beautiful set of sheets that I loved, and used fusible hem tape (the stuff that you iron on to hold up a hem when you don't know how to sew) to put them together to make a duvet cover for our queen down comforter. I put the tap on three edges, and left the top edge open so that I could slip it in, and then sewed buttons at the top, and matching ribbon across fromt eh bottons (on teh other flap) so they'd have a place to close. You could sew on ribbon ties too. It was super easy, super cheap, and now, 8 years later, I've STILL got that duvet cover, LOL!! Dh laughs every time I put it on the bed, but hey! It's still working and looks great!

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go looking for some sheets right away. And if I can't figure out how to sew them, I'll try the hem tape!

I did something similar to this. I originally went out looking for a cheapie sheet and found a 300 count irregular that worked really well and made for a super cozy backing for my "cover"
