For some reason I keep waking up on my back and it seems to be comfortable. I worry about the safety of the baby. TIA!

It was the ONLY way I could get comfy with DS AND DD .. although DD was a preemie .. My doc always said it was ok .. although most books say it's not the greatest idea? (something about blood flow? I never had trouble with my legs or feet going numb, but my mom did a lot)

I hear it's better for blood flow to babies to sleep on your sides, but the world won't end if you wake up on your back. This, by the way, is TOTALLY UNCOMFORTABLE now with twins, haha.

I am 34.5 weeks and still sleep and lay around on my back! I havent had any problems because of it and I think that I would know to change positions before something happened to the baby.

Having only 2 sleeping positions gets old really fast!

Oh I WISH i could be comfortable on my back!!! I am a back sleeper and am so uncomfortable on my side, but laying on my back now I feel like I'm suffocating. Even just briefly laying on my back when switching from one side to the other is so uncomfortable and I feel like I can't breathe!

I can't lay on my back for very long either. I feel like I'm suffocating too. I think when I lay on my back it gives Radish too much room and he stretches out and compresses my lungs. :LOL I'll sometimes start to feel a little dizzy too. So I sleep on my side...

If it really concerns you about rolling onto your back, you can place a small pillow behind you to roll onto. That will keep you from rolling totally flat.

Recliner chairs are the way to go, y'all. Takes the pressure of your hips, but since you're not totally flat you don't have the breathing/circulation problems.

Yep, I am now sleeping on my back too. I'm 36 weeks. Just started about a week ago. I woke up that way, and thought, "Wow, I'm so comfortable!" Because now it hurts to lay on my side for more than 10 minutes. I start getting shooting pains in my back & ribs and numbness. So, whatever helps me sleep is fine by me!

I always start out on my side but often wake up on my back, or mostly... cause I do put a pillow directly behind my back along my spine.
I think I get leg cramps more often when I'm on my back than my sides....

Oh, I am so excited for the day when I can sleep on my back again! I can lie there for a few minutes, but then it gets uncomfortable breathing. My mw said if its comfortable, no worries, but if you are compressing your vena cava and cutting off blood supply, you will wake up catching your breath, your body lets you know that way and will keep blood supply to the baby as its first priority. So if it bugs your breathing, you will move before baby can be affected, but if you feel good, go for it. Ahhh, I dream of the day.....
