Need your help with essential oils & more...

Hi ladies,

In an effort to make an affordable and memorable baby shower favor, I've decided to try my hands at making some bath salts. I've never done anything like this before so I could use some help from you crafty mavens:

Which essential oils do you love the smell of? (i.e. If you were making the salts for your shower, which ones would be your choice?)

Where can I get EO for a reasonable price? (I plan on working on these this coming weekend so a local brick & mortar store suggestions might be best)

I could also use some suggestions on how to package these...jars? bags? what would be cute?

Please help! TIA!

Health food shop should be a good place to get a few essential oils (eos). Also good place to get dried rose petals or dried lavender blossoms. Walmart/Walgreens/etc should be easy places to locate Epsom salts. Dump your Epsom salts in a large ziplock bag. Add your eos (you'll have to experiment to see how many drops of each you want. Some are quite potent...like jasmine!) Gently shake to mix. Add some dried rose petals or lavender blossoms for color or not. Should be stored in a glass jar. Don't put in a bag...too messy. Any jar will do. A French canning jar is probably the prettiest, but even just a plain Mason canning jar will work.

EO combos I like:
peppermint & lavender (great for morning sickness)
bergamot & orange
peppermint & orange
orange & cardamom (well, my lhfs had to special order the cardamom)
tea tree oil & lavender
ginger & cardamom & orange
bergamot & rose
lemon & peppermint (very refreshing during summer esp.)

Don't add too many different scents or it might be overwhelming. I love the little wooden scoops you can get from The Body Shop too. The would be great to tie to your jar with a ribbon or some raffia.

Get a small glass spray bottle from the hfs, add a few drops of the same eos as your bath salts (I use 30-40 drops eos in a 4oz spray bottle) and fill bottle with rubbing alcohol to make a matching all natural, phthalate-free body mist.

You could even pick up a bar of natural/homemade soap in a complimentary scent and a hemp washcloth. Use a wide-mouth mason jar and use some fabric to cover the lid. Attach a wood scoop with some raffia. Tie the bodymist/soap up in the hemp washcloth and tie to the jar.

I just making my own body care and avoiding all those nasty chemicals. Oh, you might even add a candle and a recycled glass candle holder. A number of the hfs I go to carry these. Look for a soy candle with a soot free wick. Other candles aren't healthy for developing babies.

HTH. Just discovered the craft pages so I hope this comes in time.
