Hi, I'm Emily, 22, and I would say, beginner sewer.

I'm a paradox, in that I can set a zipper but can't put sleeves in a shirt without all kinds of tucks and junk in the fabric. I learned to do zippers by taking a worn pair of pants and disassembling them one piece at a time, and writing down what order they came apart. I've made many pants from them, with alterations, that my sister wears now.

I took a few years off from sewing because I was in an apartment with no space to set up. I am starting again, sewing cloth dipes from some old receiving blankets.

This 1st one my mom and I made, it has the soaker inside. Even the velcro is reused from elsewhere.

These I made myself, they have a snap-in soaker for quicker drying. They survived quite an explosion this morning without dirtying the cover!

Kate,
Thank you! They are so warm and snuggly. It was worth all the effort to make them.
All the motivation in the world hasn't been giving me more time to work on the pocket dipes. But then again I am doing something like 30 at once. heehee I'm taking the assembly-line to an extreme here. :LOL I will definitely post pics when they are done.

What a gift your old boyfriend's mom gave you! (And btw, I'm intrigued at the idea of embroidered PUL... Could you post a picture when you've sewn up those dipes?)

I am really starting to sew, I mean it! I got my copy of "sewing 101" in the mail today and I'm going to try to do at least one project from it a week. I think this week will be the baby blanket (it's just a square of fleece with satin blanket edging sewn on).

I have done a prefold and a couple of trifold soakers on this serger I borrowed that doesn't work (if you use it for more than a couple of minutes it smokes and gets hot), but otherwise I'm pretty green.

Wish me luck!

J.
