garlic question

Garlic Experts: I need your help!! It may sound silly, but I purchased garlic plants, planted them and they seem to be doing well. Okay, that's not the silly part, here it is: How in the heck do I harvest it? Do I dig it up? When will I know? I would really appreciate some info! Thanks in advance!

You simply dig them up. Get a trowel and dig the bulb up from the base. They do take some time and I have always harvested mine in the fall. I leave some in the ground here. I just dig it up as needed.

If you want to check on them, just rake soem of the dirt away from the bulb. You should be able to see the top of it without harming the root system which is located just under the bulb. See how big the top of the bulb is and either dig it up or replace the dirt.
