What is your CPMs transfer rate for HBACs?

I thought I had finally found *the* CPM for me (they're illegal here in NC) and she has an pretty good transfer rate overall, but her transfer rate for VBACs is right at 40%. And of these ladies that transferred, all eventually delivered vaginally (although forceps or a vacuum were needed on a few) Several ladies on another board I go to felt this rate was too high and said they would find someone else. I really don't know what to do and I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I just don't want to end up with another c-section!!!!!!!!!!

If I don't deliver with her I'll deliver in a hospital with a CNM, but the CNM's VBAC rate is MUCH lower than the CPM's. AAAAAAHHHH!!! If only life was easy.

what were the reasons for transport? do you feel like she'd talk to you before wanting to transport so you can discuss if that situation arose? were the babies in a not so good position (like posterior)?

I guess it depends. I went through a long period of time where the only time I tranported was when it ended in a cesarean. Does she seem like she trusts birth? Do you feel comfortable with her? Do you feel like she can help you have the birth you want?

Have you considered parallel care with the CPM and CNM? That way, if your hb mw transfers you, at least you'd transfer over to the CNM? The back-up OB I use has several mws on staff. If in the event of a transfer, I'd go to the mws first, rather than straight to the surgeon.....my mw has about a 3% c/s rate w/her clients for this very reason. It sounds as if you most want to avoid surgery, rather than location being the # factor in your decision-----hope you figure something out that you're happy with---you deserve some peace, mama!!!

Out of 6 HBAC I have been with none were transported, even a mom who pushed for 6 hours to get her little boy born

We aren't CPMs, but a birth center with CNMs. Our transport rate for VBACs for the last several years is less than 5%. We have had one this year (out of 15 or so) and hers was *choice*, not necessity.

I think that is a very high rate of transfer; but definately talk to her about the reasons for transfer; I mean, maybe she hasn't had that many, so a few transports will skew the results. Or maybe she feels the moms weren't prepared well enough. Or maybe she is just not that comfortable with VBACs. Who knows? Ask.

Then let us know, because now I'm curious!
