I guess my biggest one has to be WAHMs that choose to slam others design.....I love this community becasue of the variety. I also love WAHMs that choose not to toot their own horn in posts such as these! I diapers, because there is a little something out there for everyone.

Emily doesn't seem to be bothered by much at all. The only thing that bothers her is when a velcro diaper rubs at her thighs or waist, but I think that's a build thing, not how the diaper is made.

OTOH, things that bother me... and it's just me - different things work best for different people....

I cannot stand for snaps to NOT be hidden. For me, all snaps have to be hidden. I have no idea why, but it just really bothers me.

Elastic that is exposed. I've only seen this once, but it bothers me.

That's about it. I can't think of anything else that I have run into and not liked. I still have plenty of diapers with non-hidden snaps that I love, but I wish their snaps were hidden. I know it's more work to do it that way, though, and takes a lot more time.

No way! You saw some on the nb diapers didn't ya? All other snaps except for the top row of a nb diaper are hidden on my dipes. There's an explaination for the top row being exposed, and I'd be happy to explain it to anyone who wants to email me But yes..all snaps on all other sizes s,m,l are hidden because that's what I like to use.

I actually don't think anyone is tooting their own horn and I'm finding this VERY interesting. I love reading the posts to see if I'm juts a loon and totoally caught up in details or if there are others like me. I love reading the wahm posts because it helps me to understand why they design the way they do. Like the exposed snap thing.. now I get why some whams leave them exposed. Doesn't make me like it anymore, but helps me to understand they they aren't just skimping on time.. they have a legitimate reason for leaving them exposed. I totally agree that what one person hates, another will love. There are MANY diapers out there that I just can't use because they drive me bonkers but they are some of the most loved diapers by the majority of mamas and I think that's great. It stands to reason that a wahm would design her diapers around her likes and, more often, dislikes of other products she has used. You'd be nuts not to. So what you call tooting their own horn, I call just being candid about whaty they don't like. The fact that they avoid that in their own design only stands to reason. I wish more wahms would post. I'm always so sad to see wahms avoid posting because they don't want to be accused of anything immoral. Personally I'm proud of what I make and why I make it but reguardless of that, I think it's fun to share in threads like these why I don't use proraps or to share my frustration that it's hard to find really great diapers with hidden snaps. You like it when whams don't share in these threads.. well, I LOVE it when they do because it makes it so much fun. Sucks that if you sew, you are excluded from so much around here because posts like yours make you feel like you are doing something really underhanded by joining the fun. You just ripped all the fun from this thread for me, and probably for some others.

Many of us WAHM's avoid posting because we've had our hands slapped too many times for talking about our own products and designs and business practices. There's such a fine line we walk, and sometimes it just isn't worth the time to post.

I guess I woud prefer hidden snaps myself. I started out (years ago) making hidden snap diapers, and then when I opened custom slots and gave the option of hidden/non hidden I was surprised to see that 90% of them wanted non hidden. When I asked some of them, they all had had experience with snaps eventually popping apart, so they wanted to avoid that. I guess it's a give and take. But, I personally like hidden snaps (maybe because I can just fix it myself if a snap does pop apart :LOL).

Now see, that's a good reason for WAHMS to NOT do hidden snaps. If a snap comes apart they have to rip out the serging on the wing of the diaper, replace the snap and then re-serge it, and of course it will look like crap b/c it's been ripped out and re-done. If the snaps aren't hidden, they can just remove the broken snap and put a new one on, no problem.

So glad you started this thread! My BIGGEST pet peeve is front snapping diapers that do not have an even number of rows of snaps! Does that make sense? Like, there are seven snap setting rows, so they're uneven no matter WHERE I fasten the darned thing!

I didn't mean to rain on anyones parade.....I was just giving my opinion....I just think making tatements like "____% of wahms do ____" is un called for.
Its all about opinion.
My biggest peeve is too small or too big diapers. I bought a large a while back, and we were within the weight limit stated, and it was Ginormous! I bet I could wear it. :LOL

:LOL I have one of those too but Stinker can wear it. It is really big but I put a tight soaker over top and all works great. I love so many different diapers, front snap, side snap. Hidden and not hidden. Wide in the crotch, narrow in the crotch. You name it I have tried it and I love them all for different reasons. I love variety.

I hate "diaper ears". On side snap diapers when the snap caps are applied an inch or so in from the edge of the diaper so that when it is fastened on a child the edges stick straight out to the side making it look like the diaper has ears. : I have no clue what the reason is for not putting the snaps closer to the edge so that the diaper fastens flat.

but one pet peeve I do have and that does not apply to any diaper in particular is absorbency. I like a thirsty diaper Also, I do not like the velcro diaper-snake:LOL And, I do not like velcro burns either on thighs or tummy. That's a no-no

I really appreciate every diaper that I have. When I buy from another wahm, I know what work goes into the diapers, and I really, really appreciate that.

I have some narrow crotch, some wide crotch, some high rise, some low rise, front snap, side snap, naked, prints, tie-dye, hemp, cotton, velcro, snap, etc. I love all of my diapers. I love my prefolds, fitteds, pockets and aios.

And, the only thing that bothers Emily is when I snappi a prefold too tight. I don't do it often, but I'm not a genius at the snappi, so every now and then, while she is squirming to get away, I get it too tight. She walks bowlegged and whines at me. Other than that, the width of the crotch, rise, elastic being sewn to all layers or the inner layer left, etc. never seems to bother her at all. (except for a diaper that I got that had exposed elastic and she developed a raw spot where the elastic was.)

Anyway..... to all the wahms of the world... you are doing a great job and I love all of my diapers!

Whaaa?? WAHMs aren't supposed to have opinions about all the dipes out there? I haven't seen a single thing posted by a WAHM on this thread that I thought was out of line, in this regard.

My pet peeve is when aplix isn't sewn all the way to the edges of a tab, so that the ends of the tab roll up. I also hate that the fleece on certain dipes pills SO much (and it doesn't on others so it isn't just fleece in general).

I just have to say that a lot less bothers me now that I sew diapers than it did before because now I know just how much work goes into each diaper. And I understand the little things, like serging flaws, non-hidden snaps, FOE, sizing, etc. And I understand how much work changing a design can be.

I also have issues with the wings on front snappers if they aren't symmetrical on my ds as well...I do all that I can to make it even, but sometimes he's just inbetween snaps and there's nothing I can do. :LOL

and i thought i was the pickiest gal alive!

"diaper ears" is a perfect description. i want to start a whole new thread for this one, b/c like "wing droop" it is one of those very irksome details that never made any sense to me. it seems easy enough to avoid ears and droop. so why does it seem like most side snappers have ears? i gave up on side snappers specifically b/c of ears!

crooked row of snaps on front snappers really get me! but after asking wahms about it (b/c it irked me so much), i learned that it can be tricky to line up your snaps. on side snaps, i am bothered by asymmetrical snaps.

asymmetry in general. i usually see this on side snappers.

BIG TAGS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE DIAPER.

please excuse my shouting. i dislike this sooooooooo much. tags belong on the inside, not the outside. and ginormous (i thought only i used that word! hee hee) tags on the front of the diaper are quite a distraction--especially if the diaper is a print. (fuzbaby and firefly, btw, have the worlds most beautiful tags. they are tiny, and either inside, or on the back.)
