You ever ealize taht there is something goin on but not quite sure what it is?

i'v been having issues with my weight. Not because I feel like I'm fat and not because my dh thinks I'm fat and not because I'd lke to be thinner and that kind of thing. I would like to be thinner though.

I have discovered my attitude toward food is very very unhealthy. So, the fastest way to sum it up...

I over eat because I have persistent anorexic tendecnies. But I binge in order to control those feelings. I eat when I'm stressed, tired, bored, happy, sad... I'm sick I tell ya!!

I'm not sure if it is all stress related but I'm pretty sure I remembe being this way from a very young age. I'm not sure what to do about it either.

If you figure it out, go ahead and drop me a note. I'm just hoping I don't pass on the same habits to my kids!

Is that like those of us who are... uh... disorganized, but are that way because we are frustrated perfectionists? I can relate!

shrink here.

sadly, what you describe is true for so many american women (and prolly, in other cultures, too...).

what do you mean by "persistent anorexic tendencies"? is it that you persistently want to starve yourself, but instead stuff yourself in an attempt to push the wanting to starve yourself feelings aside?

i also wanted to add, that i of course can't shrink you, per se, since we're online and all, but i'd be happy to give you some ideas (via PM if you want some privacy, or not if you don't) that may help you figure this stuff out for yourself or at least help you along towards finding someone local you can work it all out with.

I have this desire to starve myself...especially when I see weight coming off. Like, I've started doing weight watchers and running and I'm starting to slim down. Then I start thinking...if I only eat dinner then I would lose this weight faster! WHen in reality I"m not really interested in speed but in changing my eating lifestyle.

(we can continue this in the public forum as long as you feel comfortable with it...might help others too)

okay...that doesn't sound like what i'd call anorexic tendencies (altho your description is admittedly, kinda vague, or maybe it's just my cloudy mama-brain... ) so you have a desire to starve yourself, but you don't actually do it, right?

just from the small amount of info i have...it sounds like you have what i'd call "an unhealthy relationship with food." not a clinical diagnosis, i know, but something i came up with after seeing so many women who have it.

let me ask you this...where in your life are you feeling starved? where are you feeling empty? where are you feeling full? meditate a bit on the concepts of emptiness and fullness, feast and famine in your life right now (and also in your past...growing up, what needs were left un-filled?). maybe do a little journaling on it, just free-writing about these concepts.

okay, that's all the creativity i have for tonight.

i'd also reccommend you check out the geneen roth books (feeding the hungry heart, when food is love, etc.) she's got about 5 or 6 good ones.
