How often to brush a toddlers teeth?

We have just really started getting serious about brushing DS's teeth! He is just one year old, and he really doesn't like getting his teeth brushed. He nurses all the time, and eats well, not too much fruit, no baby food etc, and while he does nurse at night, I have weaned him off of nursing to sleep. I make him unlatch before he falls asleep.
How often should we brush his teeth? Right now we do it once a day when we think about it, but is once in the morning and at night better?

My DS just turned one. I'm not the greatest about taking care of his teeth. I TRY and do it once a day, but I don't make it every day. I just use a piece of gauze rather than a baby toothbrush. That way he can't grab it out of my hand as easily. I just "brush" really quickly and get it over with!

I started brushing when they got teeth. At least once a day, sometimes two. They didn't always like it and I didn't force them if they didn't. I tried to make a game out of it, like letting them brush mine with my toothbrush while I brushed theirs or telling them I needed to brush their smile, things like that.
My son is 3 1/2 and seriously cut back on nursing at 3 yrs and totally weaned about a month ago. He has suddenly developed horrendous teeth. I think the breastmilk was keeping them healthy
As long as your son's mouth is cleaned out before nursing to bed, breastmilk actually fights bacteria in the mouth. It can bind to sugars in the mouth though, that's why it's important to clean his teeth before he nurses to bed. This can be as simple as wiping them with a damp washcloth or just having him drink some water.

Okay. DS does kinda let me brush his teeth while he is having story with DH, and we all have some water and some probiotics before bed, so I am thinking that it should be good for now. I don't know. Ihave just been feeling very scared about tooth decay with him, even though DH and I have good teeth!
